i am about to start reading the book. i am a descendent of slavery whose ancestors made it to safety in Buxton, Ontario (then i believe called Elgin County) on the Underground Railway. Many relatives still reside there and are very active in passing on the history far and wide.

The Underground Railroad is an excellent rendition of slavery in the United States. I highly recommend this book as it will touch your inner being and make you question your humanity.

i thought whiteheads underground railroad was a metaphor for purgatory or something. Cora could go there and be safe but couldn't stay. she had to go to heaven or hell. I thought she was traveling through a different realm that manifested what her interpretation of an underground railroad would look like. logistically it would be impossible to have something like that. so my mind filled in the plot holes.
