You don't have to shoot to enjoy learning! Ian does a great job of finding the odd and interesting to explain why something worked or didn't work, and if some invention led to something else's success. That and the history is a lot of what I like about the Forgotten Weapons channel. I grew up in Texas reading Gun Digest annual, various editions of Weapons of the World, reloading manuals that taught how things are made and how they work; when I joined the military, I was shocked how ignorant many soldiers were! Whether as a boy or as an adult, I've never been able to go shooting frequently. I have tried to not lose the curiosity about how and why things work, though. So I hope you enjoy!

@@davidgoodnow269 I know, I went shooting when I was a child with my father who was armory master in a jail. I agree, that of videos Ian makes I enjoy most there are those of really weird guns and finding out how that worked. Sometimes there are genius ideas that are just impractical. It is quite fun to watch.

@davedavids57
@davedavids57 2 жыл бұрын
Like a lot of places in Europe it's always kind of difficult to talk about how good elements of the gun laws are as often the good bits are based on technicalities and loopholes that the government have placed to make other governments happy. So it's sometimes seen as bad form to point out these loophole rules as the anti gun people are probably not even aware of them (and that's the best way to keep it). Czechoslovak Gun stores channel did a good video on Czech gun laws if you want the basics. It's weird often staying as quiet as possible is the best way in Europe to actually keep your rights. If people don't know it's legal they won't try and ban it.
@CzechMyGuns
@CzechMyGuns 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’m not that much interested in that for now. The Channel @czechoslovakgunstories is more focused on this kind of topic.

@@davedavids57 as a Czech, I'd say that the public and political opinion on guns is relatively positive here in Czechia after velvet revolution. There is only a little gun crime, no strong anti-gun movement, pro-gun organizations and supporters express themselves usually in a rational and modest way. So overall, people more or less agree that the existing gun laws are quite ok and decently liberal for a European country. So the most challenges and pressure come from EU, indeed from certain governments which would like to ban probably even slings; recently, the gun rights were added to Czech constitution to protect the current status quo at least a bit.
@davedavids57
@davedavids57 2 жыл бұрын
@@janvesely6353 I live in Czechia too. I agree that here there isn't much opposition to the gun laws. However most the non gun people I know don't actually understand them. I work in the gun industry and I have Czech's who regularly say that Czechia is far safer than the US because you can't have a "military style" weapon like the US. I then point out you can and it blows there mind. Guns in Czechia aren't as visible so unless your in to them you don't see them (unlike the states). I agree with you it is foreign governements rather than the Czech which threaten gun rights. Especially given that Czechia and central Europe have found ways around certain EU laws which must (if they realise) piss them off.
@janvesely6353
@janvesely6353 2 жыл бұрын
@@davedavids57 Good point, also reminding that a single major incident involving a semi auto assault rifle could change the things completely. Do you think, as a professional, that the locals perceive Czechia as a renowned small arms producer? Meaning if it contributes to more favorable opinions even if people don't know any details. And of course general public opposition to EU ideas to fix something that is not broken.

It's frustrating to see an interview where the 'host' relies on the 'guest' (because interviewer and interviewee is a nightmare to type several times) to carry the interview. Weak questions and an obvious lack of the most basic background research make even the most interesting guest feel bland. This interview is the opposite of that. I could listen to Ian rambling about whatever for ages, but even more so when he's guided in interesting and fresh directions and kept within the borders of the question whenever needed. There are so many questions and angles I couldn't have imagined I needed answers to. One of, if not the best interview I've witnessed.

CZ-75A is mine, though I've been a fan of the CZ-52 almost as long. The -52 just needs a semi-staggered 12-round magazine to fill out the grip, I thought, then discovered one winter that it's a for-thought to anyone needing thick gloves!

@@CzechMyGuns Myslím to vážně. Opravdu mi to video udělalo radost. Dobrá práce, jen tak dál.

Probably should've downmixed the stereo to mono for this video, and that's my only complaint. Excellent interview!

if i may be so bold as to say. it sounds like Mrs McCollum is a true partner. she may not be very involved in the day to day but her saying that, sure go ahead and having the confidence in her partner is outstanding. just the ability to see what he was doing and wanting him to be sucessful in his endeavour
