That was "cannelure" he was saying. It's the little groove around a bullet. Helps hold the bullet in position at the mouth of the case; also may hold the wax/lube in a black powder round as well. Had to look up that word: knew what it was just not what it was called.

I have over 1000 rounds of this ammo from the white box seconds I picked up at Cabelas to internet purchasing. I don't claim to be a marksman but I consistantly get sub MOA out of my Mk 12 and Bushmaster Predator 1:8 twist. In addition this has been my go to round for hogs over the other soft point .223's on the market. I just purchased my first boxes of the 62g Barnes XXX in 5.56 from Black Hills but cannot comment on it's stopping power yet. I do know I get 1.5 MOA with it and that's very acceptable.

The MK262 consistently shoots 1 to 1.5 MOA out of my 10.4” SCAR16S. IMO if the group opens up it’s because of me not the gun or the ammo. Unbelievable ammo

I spend quite a bit of time at my gun club’s 600 yard line with my .308 AR - that’s why I started reloading. I’ve covered the cost of the equipment in one years time, and I can optimize loads to the mag length restriction.

In late 2008, my unit 3rd LAR got new M4s with the boxes, I mean new (They took all the M16A4s away). So I got to Iraq March 2009, we had to zero our weapons, we all had ACOGs 4x. I got mk262 in the ziplock bag they initially give you until you get your full load. I had so many issues chambering those OTM rounds.

Black Hills has made some great loads in the past that are no longer available. Such as Thunder Ranch .44 Special. I love Black Hills, I'd just like to see them widen their selection. BTW, as of my post, you have had 1026 views and zero thumbs down.

Algorithm.

I dont care what they say, the bullet in the mk262 is NOT the same bullet commercially available. The 77 grain SMK with a cannular is different then the bullet being utilized in the mk262 mod1. Johnnys reloading bench pulled apart the commercial variant and compared the two bullets and it is slightly different shaped and seems to have a better ballistic co-efficient. Ill probably post a video on this topic but this is most definitely not the same bullet. I finally found a powder, primer, case, and bullet combination that got me to the same relative performance as the mk262 mod 1. 23.6 grains of Alliant Varmit with a 5.56mm CCI primer, Winchester/LC NATO brass, and a 77 grain sierra match king, out of my custom mk12 mod 1 build, I was getting about .8 MOA at a hundred yards and about 2730 FPS average with a SD of about 12. At 800 yards I have to dial in 24 MOA to get reliable hits on target. Using military issue mk 262 brown box, I am dialing about 21 MOA at the same target, 2720 FPS average, about 1 MOA at a 100 yards with a SD of about 15. From the videos I have seen online alot of people are experiencing the same thing. I dont blame black hills for using a different, more efficient bullet for their ammunition but I wish they would stop trying to advertise it as THE SMK 77, it is a SMK 77 but is the not the same commercially available 77 grain with a cannular. In addition, the red box 77 grain Factory new 5.56mm ammunition, utilizes a different propellant than the 20 round mk262 brown box or white box seconds. Maybe this has changed and the Redbox ammunition now utilizes the same propellant but when I saw videos comparing the two, it was definitely different. I know everyone wants to get the same thing as the military but unless you buy brown box, you arent going to get it.
