I think that Tim Keller is amazing BUT these little short interviews do not do him justice. The best 10 minute clip on utube is his discussion on happiness. That is life changing. Instead of allowing utube to define his message with short clips, he should seize the opportunity to make use of this ministry tool! In context everything he says makes sense and is pointing the world towards Christ. That is a Pastor's main job.

I agree with brother Tim, we definitely need to cut down on the political campaigning to change legislation and start reaching out in our communities. The Gospel, is more intimate than political reform...

Part of the problem with the question about "the Church's" stance on politics is that Christianity in the US is very different than Christianity in European nations. For example, the Church in England is a denomination that has an opinion. Here there is no organizational unity within "the Church" and so to refer to "the Church's" stance on politics will inevitably paint with strokes that are far too broad. Also, this was poorly edited. It seemed like they cut Keller off almost mid sentence several times. I would love to have heard more.

Some here are asking why the church would do better to keep religion out of politics. I'm not sure if it's entirely possible to divorce religion from politics but I think there would be less push back from the "left" if the church spent less time demonizing those who they disagree with, get over their fixation with what goes on in their neighbor's bedroom,and put the emphasis where Jesus did: the poor, the disenfranchised, the downtrodden...putting others first. All that good stuff. People were drawn to Christ because he loved them. They responded to his challenges as well because, again, he loved them.
@JeffRohrerCarAudio
@JeffRohrerCarAudio 10 жыл бұрын
I agree with you but the problem is that the people who demonize are exactly that "Religious" A real Christ follower should not be doing this but always being a peace maker, sadly the "Religious" are who have the most to say and the least to do.

Every Protestant that proclaims that we are justified by Faith Alone should HEAR these FOUR words by James 2:24 echoing in their heads: "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." "not by faith alone." Deeds and faith go hand in hand, but faith must come first. Faith without works is dead, still “saves” but does not evangelize. Works without faith are not salvific.
@Ryan_Zell
@Ryan_Zell 2 жыл бұрын
@@benjousan8470 Are you claiming a DEAD Faith can SAVE? Where in the Scriptures does it say "FAITH MUST COME FIRST?????" My Bible doesn't say that anywhere. My Bible does say this: For by Grace you are saved, thru faith;.... Grace always comes first. Faith unless it's a Living Faith, does not justify/save you. The Three Heresies Found in the New Testament 1. The Judaizers Requiring Gentiles to be Circumciszed (Acts 15) 2. Justification by Faith Alone (James 1 and 2) 3. The Early Heresy of Gnosticism/Dualism (1 John 1:1-2) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/brd8dql027bKg4U.html

@@Ryan_Zell Obviously the point of the scripture you first posted means that faith and works go hand in hand. Fruit of the spirit, etc. What I believe all these scriptures accentuate is that there is a temptation to emphasize faith or works over the other when it comes to living a saved life. So I misspoke by countering you with a seemingly antagonistic argument. It is a bad tendency of mine to argue faith and works against each other. The works are evidence of faith, not the means to it. Both will be present in a true believer, obviously. The broader agreement is that it’s not ultimately our effort that produces the faith or the works, but God’s.

@@benjousan8470 The purpose of that top comment is to help the Heterodox understand that Faith Alone results in a dead faith. Again: The Three Heresies Found in the New Testament 1. The Judaizers Requiring Gentiles to be Circumciszed (Acts 15) 2. Justification by Faith Alone (James 1 and 2) 3. The Early Heresy of Gnosticism/Dualism (1 John 1:1-2) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/brd8dql027bKg4U.html James was tasked with correcting this heresy before it became a systemic infection. Paul was tasked with correcting the heresy that had become systemic requiring a Ekkclesial Council to make a ruling. Faith Alone is a heresy. The issue is not faith + Works.
