I wish they had immediately done The Vampire Lestat, he's actually not an a-hole and his powers go way beyond anything seen in this movie. In the books, his powers are insane because he went through hell, literally. He was born in 1760, the son of a French noble and, as a human, single-handedly killed a pack of wolves. Lestat's mother becomes a vampire too, he also started the theatre des Vampires.

This movie is a masterpiece in my opinion. Easily one of the best vampire centric films. To answer your question about why they can’t cut hair or change, think of these vampires as statues. Stuck in the image they were created. The cast killed it in this movie! Especially Tom as Lestat and Kirsten as Claudia. For her age she was captivating in her performance. Tom really enjoyed the source material and just went with it in such a natural way. Brad was great as well but he had issues with the filming so he always seemed conflicted in his performance which was perfect for Louis as a character.

Tom Cruise killed this. He read all the books and kept them on the set for reference. He IS Lestat! The second book is Lestat’s story, and Cruise pulled on that back story for his performance. Initially, Anne Rice was upset at Cruise being cast. But when she saw his performance, she took out an ad in the newspaper to apologize for criticizing him and said he was perfect as Lestat.

Its well established in the books that vampires cannot have sex. So every romantic relationship is more like a companionship and not really physical. So vampires dont really care much about age, gender or anything else. For example in the books Lestat made his mother into a vampire and they were together for years. It sounds really weird but the books do a good job of explaining it

The best scene in this film is when Tom comes back from the swamp. It is the anticipation and tension as he plays the piano, obscured by the lace curtain. His speech is haunting. And then, we see his horrible, distorted face as he says, "Claudia....you've been a very, very, naughty...little...girl". And then...POUNCES on them. Great scene!

The books give you so much more to the story, but this is a fine fine adaptation. Fun fictional fact, Lestat was the founder and benefactor of the Vampire Theatre in Paris (his dream was always to be an actor /performer and Tom Cruise played him with the theatrical zeal that he would have had in life/death) Lestat gave these vampires a home and purpose and they all knew him. Lestat came from French aristocracy and he was born wealthy. Also, at this point Lestat knew the secrets and origins of the vampire...but was sworn to secrecy... And how it all tied back to prehistoric Egypt and Enkil and Akasha who were possessed by the blood demon Azril? (I think) Also, Lestat survived the assassination attempt by Claudia because he had been given Akasha's blood, so he was an extremely powerful vampire...

I find it most ironic that Lestat tries to show Louis that he can feed 'ethically' by killing evil-doers (Lestat can read minds so he knows who's been bad...) but Louis is so twisted up about killing that he drives Lestat to create Claudia, who is the most voracious unconscionable killer among them 😅 Though Lestat abandons his morals to hold onto his 'family', you can see it grinding him down over the years as he starts to bicker with Claudia, leading to his temporary defeat at the hands of his own broken little doll 😵

This movie is spectacular! It's also surprisingly authentic to the novel (the novel is amazing) Interview With the Vampire was Anne Rice's debut novel in 1976 It was not very well received with critics whom attacked the homoerotic nature of the vampires and criticized that the book humanized vampiric monsters at all Thankfully readers didn't agree and through the next couple decades Rice added to the series in what became known as The Vampire Chronicles Something very important to know about the book, however, Rice dove fully into writing the book after her five year old daughter, Michele, died of Leukemia. In later interviews Rice claimed looking back she can see that she wrote Claudia to be a stand in for her own daughter Anne Rice passed away at 80 in 2021 due to complications from a stroke, she was laid in her family's mausoleum with her husband and daughter Unfortunately, the other vampire chronicles adapted movie, Queen of the Damned, is not as well made as this and has no related cast (It is notable, however, being the final film featuring Aaliyah) Currently, there is a NEW adaptation of Interview With the Vampire on AMC where the entirety of the Vampire Chronicles is taken into consideration. I haven't seen it yet, but people say it's pretty good I will always be sad that we never got The Vampire Lestat with Tom Cruise. It would have been completely epic

You mentioned Louis burning things several times. That's almost a theme in Anne Rice's novels. Vampire conflicts almost always end in fire. Because their powers and abilities can vary, it's the one weapon they can effectively use against one another. All vampires are vulnerable to it.

Regarding the "broke vampire" comment, Lestate is broke the entire movie. Lestate lived off Louie. The mansion Louie set fire to belong only to Louie. The hotel where the prostitutes were killed was paid for by Louie. In the book, after making Louie into a vampire, Lestate moved his father into Louie's house. Lestate genuinely liked Louie, but he took full advantage of Louie financially, in my opinion

I adore this movie! My favorite character is the vampire Armand played by Antonio Banderas. Please watch him in the action packed Desperado from writer/director Robert Rodriguez.

Antonio is deliciously creepy as Armand, but completely different from the book version - who is a teenaged boy 😅

My all time favorite vampire movie. Your reaction was absolutely hilarious from the rat drink, Detroit, dogs dying, etc. phenomenal. Tom Cruise was praised by Anne Rice when she was fiercely against him being cast as Lestat. The second movie is horrible. The new series isn’t bad. I do t mind the differences from the book, and it also got Anne and her sons Christopher’s approval before she passed. You should check it out!

In Anne Rice's books, vampires are essentially "frozen" at the time they turned. Physically they are unchanging in every way. Hair, body, etc: its all stopped at the moment of change.

It's great to see you! The KZfaq algorithm has not been alerting me to your videos. I remember this video coming out! I read all the books and I went with a bunch of friends who came to the movie dressed as vampires. love this movie.

I loved the book, and thought the movie was lacking alot of details. Still, the production value, and everything are great. I don't usually like Tom Cruise's acting, but he is good in this film. Brad Pitt was nice to look at in this movie, lol.

"Can vampires have babies?" So if a human and a vampire do the deed, they can potentially have a half-human half-vampire child called a Dhampir (think Ryane from Bloodryane or Blade from, um, Blade). Since Dhampir are technically alive, they can grow up but stop aging at a point. Course I'm talking vampire myths in general, I don't know if they exist in the Anne Rice vampire stories.

I've always taken Lestat's statement that Louis body is dying and he should pay it no attention to mean that the vampire's bodies are literally dead and only animated by the power of the blood. No eating, drinking, pooping or other bodily functions - including sex.

Definitely check out the books. They're a fun read. There's a sequel movie, Queen of the Damned, but it's pretty far off the source material. Also gotta recommend the Interview with the Vampire tv series that just came out, which gives it a bit of an updated timeline and reimagining.
