I'm currently about 50% through the book "King's X: The Oral History", and one of the things that has struck me so far is how genuine and nice everybody in that band is. So glad you did this interview, Pete. If anybody wants to really dig in to the history of King's X, that book is also highly recommended.

A musicians band for sure. I heard an a radio rock show where they talked about how (prior to digital / internet music age) the Label for KX would get so many requests from other bands and musicians for their new releases that the label would complain that it was eating into their sales volume!

Love, love, love Ty as a guitar player and I love him even more after hearing about the influence of the great man Alex Lifeson. I knew it!!! Both of them use these beautiful big chords with all those open strings. Great, great atmospheres they created that served the songs so well. Plus they rock insanely hard. Ty also has one of the greatest tones in recorded history.

It’s crazy they became my favorite band almost the very first time I heard their music in the fall of 1988. I’m blessed enough to have been raised in Houston,TX so I’ve seen them over 75 times on every single tour they’ve done.

I begged my parents to allow me to play an instrument when I was a kid in third grade. But was rejected at every attempt. My uncle got involved and paid for my first guitar and several lessons. He was and still is my hero! His passing, many, many years ago, broke my heart. Mostly because I was stationed in Germany at the time and couldn't be there. Ty is one of my all time favorites. He's such a cool dude. Thank you guys, I've been glued to the tube watching and listening. Can't get enough. Huge fan as well, and a guitar geeks paradise is what this is... 🎸🤓🎸🇺🇸☮

King's X are absolute legends. Their first 7 albums are brilliant without a single weak track. I can't think of another band that released 7 consecutive albums of unskippable tracks. That's like 90 songs. Insane. Legends.

My husband turned me on to Kings X (we connected through work and music), got to see them at the Crest Theatre in Sacramento-amazing show, loved it. I been playing guitar for over 40 years, and so the sound of Ty’s playing is so amazing and inspires me to try (sadly, I am very mediocre) and learn some of their stuff. So thank you for this interview, and Ty-you, DuG and Jerry are amazing and my hubby and I are HUGE fans!

One of the things I love about King's x is the fact that anybody who knows who they are always says the same thing that they're underrated and underappreciated. Back in the day when I was in high school these guys were the band that all musicians turned to. They were the Beatles of our generation.

Amazing! You asked him so many things that I would have wanted to ask. Every time I have had the opportunity to chat with him has been so brief at shows over the years. Ty is one of the very very best. Thank you so much for sharing. The only time I got to speak to him was in Newcastle. He was using the Axe-Fx at that time and I'd just bought one. All I could think to ask him was "what amp are you using in your Axe-Fx?". He stopped for a moment and replied in his wonder Southern drawl "Da-as Meta-al". Wouldn't have guessed that the gig I'd just listened to was played through a model of a Diesel VH4! Still sounded like Ty and it sounded so good.

I bought Faith Hope Love back in 90 for the cover alone. I had no idea what to expect, but when _It's Love_ came on I hit repeat and listened to it I don't know how many times. I couldn't get enough after that. I think I saw them in 95 on the tour for Dogman. My brother had come with me but he wasn't 18 yet and couldn't get into the bar where they were playing. Sucks to be him because Lost In Germany is incredible live.....that tone and riff are connected directly to my musical soul.

That was wonderful. Had to pause and missed the end chat, but someone mentioned Jerry next and I think that would be a really interesting interview. The Kings X fans love him, and he so solid and powerful, he's as huge a component of that King's X sound as the others. Would just kind of love to hear what he has to say about whatever. So 2 votes for that one.

Pete, dude seriously this was among the best interviews I have seen Ty do (not that I am a gauge for this) but his comfort level speaking to the questions from another expert made the interview feel like two experience pro's were letting us in on it. OF course thats exactly what I just saw and heard. Thanks for extracting some of those cool tidbits from Ty such as the tweener setting between 100 and 99 and "pray vibrations off the stage dont move the setting".. .I mean so much more too from Ty. To learn he was doing a follow up too gave me another level of anxiousness to simply waiting for the Kings X next album drop too. Wow. Thanks again!

Enjoyed the interview! It was great hearing from Ty after your question about his early tone and the moves to different gear. It's easy to forget sometimes that changes are made to gear, especially live, due to the history of reliability, among other things, of that gear. If a show gets wrecked because that gear is breaking down regularly, it's the next obvious move to seek out new gear. This was one of the highlights for me from this video. The other part I enjoyed is the openness to trying new gear, i.e. solid state vs. tube, not depriving oneself from a piece of gear because of an insistence of "one over the other" type of thinking when it comes to tone production. Cheers!!

Nice. I built an FM station in the early 80's in Alaska and we used to play Kings X, "Gretchen Goes to Nebraska", and also "Faith Hope and Love" during the late night. When I moved to California around 93, one of the first things I did was hit up a King's X concert on Katella down by Disneyland. It was deafening, but I stood right up front and just took it all in. As a guitar player I always appreciated Ty's guitar work and song writing. A good friend of mine from the UK turned me on to them, and we ended up covering a few of their tunes, I don't remember the titles, but the first lines were"Hey Mr. Wilson", and "I, sit on the beach, feeling the sun, feeling your hand, and I, there's a ship on the ocean and I can't decide if I like it." Thanks for the interview Pete. Good job giving Ty time to answer. The only question I would have like to heard was "what are the secret settings on the Gibson L5 ..exactly?" HA
