Long time Simon fan and was lucky to meet him several years ago. Wanted to mention an outstanding track he was on "Sukarita" on Judie Tzuke's first album Welcome To The Cruise from 79. Still scratching my head on why he wasnt used on the whole album because his drumming on that one track is in a completely different stratosphere to the rest of the drumming on the album.

I would love to see Simon back in TOTO. He is amazing. Paich-Phillips-Lukather. Some new prog-jazz instrumentals ... that would be awesome ...

Simon and Luke have something in common, they’re both virtuosos on their instruments. Together again of course wud be awesome! Simon was there for some great years and produced a great record in FIB. Who knows what the future holds?

Exactly... I mean, Dave wrote those Lines to Simon in the booklet of the 35th Anniversary DVD: "Simon, I am beyond grateful for all the blood, sweat and Tears you put into this band over the last 21 years. Looking forward to doing it again, my Friend!" So, I guess there is hope! We just have to pray for Dave´s health, a solution to that awful lawsuit and circumstances, where Luke, Dave, Simon, Joe and Steve P come back together with friends - because that´s really what I call Toto. Hell, if they do, they definitely MUST do a new Toto album... ;)

i was never really a fan of shannon's so, i think simon should get back with toto. that one answer to that question is really giving me hope about them getting back together. they made the right choice after jeff died , i also think nathan east should consider rejoining them as well.

I think choosing Shannon Forrest after Simon Philips departed was the right choice. Shannon is closely sounding like Jeff Porcaro. Even aesthetically, you can't deny he is paying tribute to Jeff as the drum set and even his getup behind the drums resembles Jeff. No need to choose who's better, they both serve Toto's music .

It just proves that taste is different. I never liked Toto with Simon, though he is a great drummer, just not to my liking. Shannon for me is more so.

Slim's, 1992 San Francisco - Toto live on the Kingdom Tour. Holy shit was Simon amazing. The whole group's time was immediately noticeable., the time DID NOT move. I was in the front row with all the local who who's..MC Hammers drummer was my buddy the whole show, high fiving each other when Simon did something amazing. Eric Martin was with us too...great show. Boz got up with the band to do Lowdown, Jojo and Beatles, Little Help From My Friends. It was almost a dream.

I have ALWAYS loved his drumming...back when Bernie Marsden of original Whitesnake did his 2 solo records in 81-82. Bernie had Ian Paice, Cozy Powell and Simon....each had such a unique sound too.. was so easy to tell who played on which song... just a Fabulous drummer...and yes, very open ringy sound!

First heard Simon on Jack Bruce Band How's Tricks!!! Then 801!!! Saw Simon live with Jeff Beck!!! 1980. 801 fascinated me being a Curved Air fan, Francis then appeared with Sky alongside Australian Classical Crossover guitarist John Williams.

It sounds like Simon will be going his own way and that means without Toto. When he was saying "I didn't like the LA-sound", I got such a feeling. Simon knows what he wants.

Absolutely. He brought his own sound and style to Toto in 1992 and did a fantastic job replacing Jeff Porcaro in his own way. He also an excellent writer and a professional sound engineer. In my opinion the perfect drummer you want to have in your band.

I really believe that if Toto ever reforms (which I doubt will happen), they should stick with Shannon. Simon was great for them and certainly was the right person at the right time but Shannon brings back more of the "old skool" Toto IMO. He is much closer to Jeff in interpretation and style while being his own man and he brings out more of the original sound in the band. People who say Simon should get back in when asked I think never really knew or heard the original lineup and "grew up" with Simon behind the kit. But as said, I think Toto as a band is history and will not reform, at least not as Toto, for a number of reasons.

Agree, as far as Shannon's style is concerned, which fits better to Toto than Simon's for my taste. Indeed Toto continued playing live, but with Bob Searight. Saw them live in july 2022 and they were great. ❤👏

I´d love to see the old Line up with him, Luke, Joe, Dave, Steve P plus maybe Greg Philinganes, Nathan East, Lee Sklar, Tony Spinner or whoever - even if it is only for one Stream Concert. Streaming would be much more easy for all of them than touring. The Line up for 2021 however seems to be Luke + Joseph plus Touring members. That´s not really Toto... I hope the Boys get back together in the future, maybe 2022!

I prefered Toto with Shannon to the line-up with Simon. Also heard them live with Jeff, that is untouchable. Toto with Bob was great, but difficult to say, if I prefer Shannon or Bob. With Shannon Lenny Castro was part of the band, bringing back great vibes from 1986, when I saw him live with Toto. ❤

Everything sounds GREAT but, the issue is LEGAL , Jeff ex Wife, she's greedy and want control of all TOTO mean$ money worthy. If they can settle an agreement (She, Luke & Paich) then something will come out of that, if not we have to enjoy the memories and keep going on. my humble opinion.

Shannon being more of a Jeff Porcaro influenced player does the songs better than Simon does so id rather see him with this band. Simon is a master at his craft but he really isn't a pocket player

Never say never with Toto... they may continue even beyond the 45th Anniversary. Plus, I don´t see any bitterness between Simon and the Boys. They are still in close with each other, and Simon even played on Joe´s new record.

I don’t care if he plays with Toto again. There are so many good drummers who are more than capable of doing that gig. Take the 3 or 4 drummers who didn’t make the cut with Dream Theater. Hell, I’ve played with two who could do that gig and make JP smile in Heaven. Luke is past stroking Simon’s blustering ego.
