Truly a class act. He's a customer of mine. I'd never know who he was if a coworker hadn't pointed it out. Worked with him for weeks and he never mentioned he was the head coach of Duke. Just said he was Mike. Sweet family too. He deserves the best.

@@ProductionAdminin his defense, I would run towards a much better opportunity to. There’s no way Duke thought they would be able to hold onto Elko after he flipped a program the way he did as fast as he did.

Texas A&M has themselves a really good coach. The score doesn’t tell the story but duke was beating Florida State 20-17 late in the 3rd quarter. Had Leonard not reageivated his injury Florida state would have won 31-27 or lost.

@@jonastatu3607 just responding to the guy who said it would be like old times when Texas beats us at Kyle Field. You have to go back to pre desegregation, early 70s for a time when Texas consistently beat A&M. You can point to the early 2000s with Mack Brown but then I can point to the late 80s and 90s with Jackie Sherrill and RC when we dominated Texas. It's an even rivalry in the last 50 years, the only outlier is one magical year in 2005 by Texas.

TAMU hasn't consistently looked like a top 49 team let alone a top 10 team. With the resources you have you can be a top 10 team year in and year out. If you are you will win that elusive national championship. You have the coach and the staff. Now all you need is to support your program, relax and enjoy the game. You've got it right this time. The reason Collin Klein didn't take the Notre Dame or Penn State job was because it wasn't Mike Elko who offered it. Character is discernable. Good luck Aggies.

I loved DC Elko bringing back the wrecking crew during his tenure. I don’t love how my team shoves coaches out the door in extremely bitter and hostile ways. If we end up doing that to Elko, it’s clear we don’t deserve a coach who takes us to a Natty. Take some pressure off Elko and he will get things done.

Bitterness? What are you talking about? The only bitterness is the swallowed resentment from multiple 5+ loss seasons while shelling out 9.5 million dollars. We handled Jimbo’s firing the appropriate way.

Nature of the job. A&M is a program that is a coach away from being a recurring National championship team. Jimbo proved he could recruit but wasn’t a good coach. We should have seen that before we hired him. Look at his resume from FSU. Yeah he won a natty but those weren’t his recruits. He was gifted that talented roster.

I love this choice, but I worry about the offense. For us old Aggies, this could be RC Slocum 2.0. It was sad when they let RC go considering how successful he was, but it was becauase he couldn't get it done at the Natty level. I am super hopeful about this hire!

Elko has a great resume. Coaching at Duke showed that he could handle being a head coach and turn a bottom feeder program into a decent program in a very short time.

He was brought on by Jimbo. We weren’t looking for a new head coach while Elko was with A&M. Elko helped make Jimbo look better than he was and it wasn’t obvious until Elko took the job with Duke.

@@gustavofring766unfortunately Texas has the luxury of building their roster with the SEC name prior to making the move. I think it will be eye opening for them though to have to play tough teams almost every week. Texas also received generous schedule to start with. They literally have the second easiest schedule in the SEC.
