Algebraix's business model is eliminating the middle man. Google's the middle man, and runs their own advertising network. Part of that revenue goes to keeping KZfaq online. Why would Google host KZfaq for free?

Maybe because KZfaq is huge, and therefore the problems that are associated with it are big as well. Thus 20 mins are not gonna cover everything or solve everything. I would say as an informational video it is helpful overall.
@Galerkith6 жыл бұрын
if you were expecting solutions to be had in this video you likely had your expectations set too high, what we can expect from this is to have a more "personal" talk with someone with power at youtube instead of it just being a faceless comment, it gives a different meaning to what is being said even if the words are the exact same, this will help moving forward just not instantly. the comment section of this video is likely being watched with more attention than normal as well so as long as talks here don't devolve into a slugfest issues being debated here may have a stronger influence in the future.

I think this was a great start. It's impossible to cover all those topics in depth in a 20 minute interview, so naturally a lot was left on the table. I don't think this means Casey was letting him off easy, I think he just wanted to cover as much as possible. (The yellow icon/demonetization discussion alone could go on for another hour!) I'm happy that someone at YT was willing to sit down with Casey and go unscripted to some tough questions. But, I would love to see more--a monthly interview would be great!

Johnny Peters I like the idea of this but would be curious on how to scale it. The obvious thing would be something like videos over 1 million subs, particularly ones with young demographics, get reviewed immediately by a board or committee, but I feel like that would become very hard to scale as KZfaq continues to grow. Also that leaves all of us who are under 1 million (or whatever number they would potentially decide on) left in about the same position we are now. I definitely like your idea a lot, just thoughts to build on it
@TheGroovyGuitarDude6 жыл бұрын

yup he kind of danced around most of everything. Even the last question he said, freedom of speech, opportunity, access, freedom to belong. Mad respect to Casey and big thanks to Robert for doing this but I have to be honest. This wasn't at all what I expected. I don't feel like we have any more answers that we did before the interview. This is all stuff we have already heard. On top of that, he talks like the yellow demonetization icon isn't a problem anymore and their bot is working. Trust me. It is not. I get videos all the time that get flagged and have nothing but harmless words in them. So for him to set there and talk like things are fixed and OK shows how totally out of touch he is with what is actually going on or its a PR move to try and make it look like everything is OK when he knows it is not. Once again I appreciate the effort but I was really expecting a more in-depth interview. I would really like to see Robert do an interview with Philip DeFranco.

YT works pretty simple... you have a big audience, you will be rewarded! I don't understand what people think this is? The first reason to create content should be passion about something! All I hear is complains about monitization... YT is no welfare... there are millions of small creators out there and all are complaining about money... this is not how entertainment works! In my opinion they should raise the bar much higher in order to be allowed monetization, that way there'd be more quality on YT and less effortless attempts to get money out of it!

I got confused on this. He suggested to not publish videos until they get reviewed. But the video will not get reviewed until there are 1000 views within 7 days. How does that work?
@penatur6 жыл бұрын
To get an early read on whether your content is likely to receive a yellow icon, you can upload a video as unlisted or private and check the monetization status before making the video public. KZfaq typically does an initial classification of the video within 2 hours after upload. If you make adjustments to the title, description, or thumbnail, the system will take another look at the video within 24 hours (without having to request a manual review).
@RhettyforHistory6 жыл бұрын
penatur I've tried tweaking my uploads that way but I haven't had any success. It's kind boggling as to why it happens on every video and has now for months.

It feels like he dodged every single question about monetization, small creators, and the problems that the Logan Paul fiasco bring up. As a small channel, it's pretty disheartening to see upper management really just not care as much as they should about the community. I guess the landscape of KZfaq is just changing to more of a corporate one rather than one for creators.
@YoungAventuras6 жыл бұрын
You said it, seems very robotic/programmed responses. Essentially at the end of the day, it would be tough for him because how can he ask his "boss" the tough questions that could get him buried? But I definitely understand your point!

So this was a great start, but at the end of the day Casey isn't an interviewer. I have great respect for Casey as an artist, but this isn't exactly his strong suit. I would have preferred if Philip Defranco had been doing the interviewing, but I don't think that'll ever happen, because KZfaq know that he isn't going to let up until he gets the truth, and that he won't be satisfied with an angled PR response.

Casey is a little league softball pitcher with these questions! He needs to throw some heat. I would say this was a wasted opportunity but he truly opened up the doors for more creators and more communication in general between KZfaq and the creators. I have a feeling 2018 will be a great year for KZfaq.
@allornothingproductions66906 жыл бұрын
Erick Khan Casey probably didn't want to push too much because in a way, Kyncl is sort of Casey's boss. I know the content creators are the back bone of KZfaq and there would be no KZfaq without them. BUT pushing too much and pissing this guy off could've been too much of a risk.

@Rasmus Raarup THIS^^^ Thank you. It's possible to have a informative and interesting interview without going for the f*cking throat. The whole world would be better off if there was more civilized discussion such as this. People often forget that KZfaq is a business, and business is imperfect. As much as they would love to be a social justice warrior, they still have to make money, and that means balancing the NEED to make money and the DESIRE to do the right thing. That doesn't mean that every business in the world can be unethical, money grubbing a**holes in the name of making a buck, but the consistent obliviousness to the complexities of running a business of this size is maddening. It drives me crazy when people want all these services on the web, but then completely ignore the fact that they require ENORMOUS amounts of capital to remain intact. You want a platform that allows you to make money with little to no financial investment? Be ready to make some compromise.

He mostly skittered around these questions in a way that was flawless and unnoticeable without giving any *real* concrete answers. Most people will buy it, but I won’t. We still have no *real* understanding of what’s really going on and where their mindset is going. If that’s how they are going to be, fine. But as for the rest of us, we will continue to be on a look out for a better user friendly platform that will give good hard working content creators a real chance.

I have been using this example, " That was really, really hard.....trying to stabilize an eco-system that is, ya know, moving around." Huh ? Really ? Nice guy, but maybe not the most relatable personality. IMO, in this circumstance, people prefer a direct, break-down-the-basics approach. Answers like those are a) unclear and ambiguous b) presumes the listener has a detailed and historical knowledge of the top, and c) just sounds too much like a politician's answer. Why was it "hard" for you and what do ya mean by ECO-SYSTEM? Maybe follow-up questions could have made a difference ?
@buffkangarooo6 жыл бұрын
Thank god other people are noticing, he basically did this; He starts getting off topic but keeps it similar to what was asked (If he could empathize with how a KZfaqr's work into his own work experience), and answers the question on the topic he switched it to. In this case, he answered the question "How can you relate your past work to the work of content creators on KZfaq". Much easier question to answer than how he could relate to the effect that the videos he's demonetizing have on the people who rely on them for income.

youtube should have a youtube channel. now hear me out. what if youtube hired some people to run effectively a news show where they talk about what they are doing to advance the platform and fix relationships between advertisers - youtube - creators and viewers. they could put the videos they make on a special page on youtube for everyone to see. say they do daily or weekly uploads to let us know what’s going on. they need a platform to talk to us like this, and ironically they are also the biggest streaming service on the internet, why don’t they utilize this to talk to the community. this is what i think at least.

They don't need to hire anyone. Big news channels would love to talk about this and ones they find out about it they do it already... But they can only broadcast what KZfaq tells us which isn't a whole lot.

This interview didn’t answer anything...it just created more troubling questions. 😕 How can you be in charge for all the KZfaq content creators...and have never had your own channel? How can you empathize and help at all if you don’t listen to the creators...? He danced around all the questions without really answering them...Honestly, all I got from this interview was a headache...
