Hi Mike. Watched your videos. I've got to say, I am impressed. We're one of those easy folks who are not going to take it to the level you have. We're out in western Nevada and the past two days we've had a winter storm come through. Yesterday and today was going to be pool set up day. Oh well. Next week. Nice job. Thank you for your videos.

This is so funny....Started out loving this video and decided I needed a pool. Studied everything about all the pool sizes intex makes. I've got the cement pad. And after all the stress of worrying what could happen I settled on the intex 9ft by 6 ft 33in pool!!!! With a little waterfall and lighted blue beach umbrella. I'm starting small.....................

@@Mixermafia23 The only thing I did was add one bag of chlor-bright shock when I first filled the pool. And I use 3 inch chlorine tablets once a week to keep it super clean and clear. I don’t use any other chemicals - but my water might be different than yours. You should try just chlorine in the beginning and if you have problems keeping the water clear, THEN try adding different chemicals - because you may not need all those other chemical, just chlorine.

Because I grew up with our above ground pool set up every year for summer, it was only second nature that when I moved out of home as a young adult into a home with my partner and had our first child, I bought our first pool that had a liner and steel supports and it was a 15 foot x 3 foot and we would shut it down during winter and cover it and once summer came around again, we would get it ready again every year. Then my brother in recent years, he's a pool and pump specialist and he built me from scratch a salt water pool system with a low chlor chlorination system and and 2HP Pump, this system was an equivalent system to use for a 60,000 litre inground salt water pool,and the 15x3 pool only holds 6,300 litres, so every time the pump is turned on, it would fully recycle and treat the pool in 15 mins tops. It would make a vortex ring pumping around in a circle like a white water river current. Our kids could get in and lay on their backs and be moved swiftly around in circles whilst the pump was running.. 4yrs ago we moved into a private lifestyle resort with 2 pools so I advertised it with pics and got so many calls. I sold the whole pool and system to a young couple wanting to buy their 1st pool for the kids. The husband was chuffed cause he knew the bargain he was buying. My daughter n I have sinced moved back out of the resort and back into a regular rental again and I want another pool system set up, so my brother doesn't know yet but I'm about to hit him up for a salt water low chlor pump system. I'm so used to putting the pool together, doing it since I was a kid with my parents, so I'm able to set just the pool fairly quickly. It's the middle of winter here in Western Australia,but I will start my prep n laybuying the pool and accessories etc.. Let the fun begin..

A tip for you that I learned when opening my pool stop by your local pool store and buy some Chlorine Stabilizer and upon startup add the amount for the size of your pool shown and run your pump nonstop at least 24 hours and do not back flush for at least 48 hours. Doing this will help your chlorine last longer. My pool is much bigger than yours and I use two floaters with 2-3” pucks in each floater and the water stays sparkling clean and my chlorine level never dips. Of course you should occasionally add algaecide and balance your PH but you will only occasionally need to put shock in your pool.

Wow. Read every comment on accident. Awesome infrastructure, it's a great multiuse space. Pool wise, I just use my compact soil it's level and has no weeds, ever! or rain... anyways... I went opposite of you and switched from framed to easy set. I live in the brutal Texas sun but I just slapped a coat of uv protectant on the blue ring and covered the area in a 50% shade cloth. I found the metal framed pools way too cumbersome and I'd never want to set it up or put away because of the hassle so I just switched to the easy set. Your other pool looks cooler and fits your infrastructures better but the easy set... idk something about it makes me happier. Sheds dope 2 PS: 1500?!?! Dude I was debating returning my 18x48 easy set at 220 bucks... scalpers...

Hey Mike. Thank you so much for all the pointers and advice you provided in your video. I would love to know how to build things like you do. I can do some carpentry but not much. Maybe some day..... My question is, how thick a concrete pad is essential for a pool the size of yours? It looked like maybe 3-4 inches. Is that necessary or would less be sufficient? My budget wants to know. Thank you! ;)
@mikesanchez9654
@mikesanchez9654 3 жыл бұрын
Patricia, It really depends on how many gallons of water your pool holds - water weighs 8 pounds per gallon. My pool was roughly 6,000 gallons when filled to the maximum - which is 48,000 pounds. So I have a 6 inch thick slab with lots of rebar - to ensure it will never crack.

Just curious did ur pull come with 1-1/4 inch inlets or did I come with the 1-1/2 inlet I have the 18×36 easy set pool but it has the smaller inlets now last yr i got another pool 18×48 steal frame with a bunch of other pool stuff a a sand filter and pump the pool liner was no goodice got to it and parts the frame was bent or missing I was more after the pump and filter now I have a question with the other pool I had got there is adapters from smaller inlets to the bigger Intex shut off valves but there is the 1-1/2 inch upgrade inlets I've seen a couple guy put them in bit it's a framed pool mine like it's to ring can I use those replacement inlets or no
@mikesanchez9654
@mikesanchez9654 3 жыл бұрын
My Easy Set pool came with 1-1/4" inlets. . .almost all pools from Intex come with that size. That's why you see so many people changing their inlets to 1-1/2" because the originals are too small for a better sand filter and pump. Definitely upgrade to bigger inlets if you want more water flow and better filtration. . .just be careful when cutting a slightly bigger hole in the liner for the adapter. It's not difficult, just use the large rubber washer as a template and use a pen to mark the circle - I used an Exacto-Knife razor blade. The vinyl pool fabric surrounding that inlet is very thick - so your cut needs to be in this area.

I don’t think it would hurt the pool - but just do your best to smooth them out. It really helps having no wrinkles to vacuum. . . and the wrinkles seem to catch sediment.

I'm thinking about the 15'x42'' Intex from Amazon. Two years later, what do you think of the quality?
@mikesanchez9654
@mikesanchez9654 3 жыл бұрын
I realized pretty quick that the pool just wasn't going to last - mainly from the brutal summer sun in Texas. Depending on where you live this may not be an issue - just be aware that the sun was really hard on the inflatable ring and this is essentially the "backbone" that holds the pool up. I eventually got rid of this Easy Set pool and invested in a much better pool from Intex - same size and price but 1000% better. This video you watched is an older one of mine and you need to see my latest video with the new pool. Once you see what I swapped it out with, you'll change your mind about the East Set pool for sure Type in: "Mike's Intex Pool & Deck Update" After you watch it respond back and tell me what you think.

Hey bud! I did it Poured a 34x30 slab and put up an index pool. Bought same ladder Bought same everything Question Did you ever line out your CHLORINE addition. I have same chemical feeder What are your settings? Thanks!
@mikesanchez9654
@mikesanchez9654 3 жыл бұрын
Hell Yeah. . .I knew you'd get after it. Ok. . . so on the chlorine feeder I dialed it down to 25% because after a single season of having it on 100%, the printed mosaic blue and white pattern on the bottom of the pool basically bleached out because I had the chlorine too high. Unless you're having weekend parties at your house where EVERYONE is in your pool, you don't need a high concentration of chlorine. Dial it down to 25%. On mine with 8 tablets stacked up inside, that will last almost 2 weeks before you need to add more. Remember, chlorine is an acid that basically prevents algae from growing in your pool and turning the water green. But, it also keeps everyone safe from catching each others icky stuff, like dirty buttholes, boogers, open sores, etc. It's not pleasant to think about, but humans are nasty creatures by nature. Let me know if I can help with anything else.

@mikesanchez9654
@mikesanchez9654 3 жыл бұрын
That's good. Keep in mind there are many variables that contribute to needing more or less chlorine. My wife and I have extra oily skin, the dogs sometimes swim with us, and the Texas sun is extra intense. Chlorine dissipates quickly in direct sunlight - which is why you can't just add it once and forget about it. . . you need to keep adding it on a weekly basis. People in hotter regions like Arizona need more chlorine weekly in the summer than people in Michigan. So, everybody's pool will have different needs depending on where you live and how you use the pool.

Nice video. One small question though. Fairly certain any pool shock should be premixed in a bucket before adding to pool. This is especially necessary with Intex pools because the higher grade chlorine content can damage your liner early. Keep them coming I appreciate a lot of the small upgrades you have done and plan to order one of those dock ladders this year as well.
@mikesanchez9654
@mikesanchez9654 3 жыл бұрын
This added step of pre-mixing the shock is unnecessary if the pump is on and circulating the water at the time shock is being added. Without the pump running, all you have is standing water. . . and in this situation I can see where a high concentration of shock would prematurely shorten the life of the pool liner. But basically you are correct - it does need to be added correctly or the pool won't last very long. Also, you're gonna love that ladder!

I watched your first video last year with keen interest. It did surprise me that you went as all out as you had for an easy set pool, but in the end, for a place that isn't florida, it does make sense to have something that is more temporary and still provides easy set up when pool season comes round. I think everything is simply beautiful, in fact! My only question/comment is this: What made you ultimately opt for the easy set pool, versus, say... an Intex metal frame pool like the prism or a coleman swim vista? I know in one of your vids, you mention how metal and acids don't mix well, but I wasn't sure if that was directed at the pool versions with the rolled steel sides and more permanent installations, or just any AGP with metal components. I have the coleman swim vista and man oh man... I just keep thinking your setup would compliment that pool so incredibly well. All the same, I am so very impressed and appreciative of your work here and your landscaping around the pool pad is to die for. Fantastic job!

Jessica, Thank you so much for your comments and great questions. I plan to post another video in the coming weeks showing that I eventually swapped out the pool for an Intex metal framed version (I'm actually filling it up as I type this). Apparently Intex received too many bad reviews concerning premature rusting with metal components, so they started powder coating the insides of those pipes as well as the outsides. Also, I'm impressed that you know what "rolled steel" sides are - this is Greek to most people when discussing above ground pools. One of my reservations about these steel sided pools is that, although the sheet-metal is coated on both sides during the manufacturing process, it shows up later as a massive roll at the assembly plant and is cut down in the factory to the size they need - and those exposed metal edges become the issue. Even though you don't see those cut edges after the pool is completely assembled, this is where the rust starts to form. My new pool has just the pipes around the perimeter and support legs - and it's still an 18' x 24" which replaces the Easy Set. The old pool I took down didn't have any issues, in fact I replaced it for other reasons. For starters the skimmer wasn't very efficient and the second reason is, although it was classified as an 18' diameter pool - in reality it was only 16' on the inside of that blue donut. A vertical wall pool classified as 18' is almost always a true 18'. . . and I wanted to maximize the surface area of that 20' diameter slab while still giving me 1' to walk around the pool for hand skimming when needed. For this new pool, I purchased a Hayward "wide-mouth" skimmer that installs on the outside of the vertical side wall - something I could never do with the Easy Set pool. . . and this should resolve the shortcomings I had with that other cheesy skimmer. I'm also adding a "sail shade" to the deck area (rather than a standard shade umbrella), that will cover the entire deck. I'm having to come up with a bit of structural engineering to make it work because I want it to be permanent but I don't want it to take flight in high wind. It's a commercial grade and custom ordered shade like you see at some car dealerships and car washes - so once installed it will look absolutely fabulous! And finally, thanks for the compliment about the area around the pool. . . not bad for a guy who knows absolutely nothing about landscaping - I'll admit I cheated by looking at plenty of backyard "dreamscape" pictures for ideas :) Don't forget to subscribe to my channel so when the new video comes out you'll get a notification to watch it. Take it easy!

@@mikesanchez9654 Oh man... I can't wait to see the new pool installed and the sail shade! With such a superb job thus far, it's going to be the envy of all! One of the things people complain about AGPs is the lack of aesthetics, but I am here to say that your backyard looks awesome and inviting, so you did a fantastic job! I am on a quest to have the ultimate staycation backyard, on a loooong timeline and a tight budget, so I spend a lot of time scouring instagram, pinterest and youtube for ideas, which is how I came upon your first video. :) Since I have way more time than money, that avid reseach is also how I know about the more "traditional" above ground pools, with the rolled steel walls and all the pros and cons of those. I consider my Coleman the "starter" pool, a regular AGP or even a Radiant or other branded semi-in ground pool as the long term and then a gorgeous (end expensive) lagoon style resort pool as the one day ultimate. I know a lot of people did complain about the rust issue on the Ultra frame and prism pools, so I am glad to hear that Intex stepped it up to powder coat the inside of the supports! Goes a long way into getting multiple seasons from a temporary AGP, for sure. Also excited to see your Sago coming back to health! All pools deserve a nice palm tree to accent. :D I'll deff be on the lookout for the new video! Happy Saturday!

Did you put in a grounding rod/wire? I have my pool also on concrete and was told by the home renovation/electrician guy that I did not need a grounding rod since it was on concrete. But I'm not so sure, even though he is the professional and should know.
@mikesanchez9654
@mikesanchez9654 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. I’m not an electrician, but I installed a ground rod 3 feet into the ground for a good reason. I am a home builder - and every home has a ground rod or ground plate - which is code by the way. Home Depot and Lowe’s both sell copper ground rods, why?. . .because every home needs one. Even homes that have copper plumbing - metal pipes must be grounded as well. So if a home must have a ground rod, why wouldn’t a swimming pool - especially when we’re talking about a body of water, an electrical motor, and 120 volts of electricity. Look at it this way - does it hurt anything to add a ground rod? Just do it.

@@mikesanchez9654 Long story, but I now have this exact size pool coming tomorrow. I want to follow your exact setup. I don't have a man to help me, so I may ask some silly questions (but I really have no clue). Where and how to I get concrete in my backyard? How much do I need poured for a pool the size of yours?
@mikesanchez9654
@mikesanchez9654 3 жыл бұрын
@@shannonkirk9229 The entire process is very simple actually. The first step is determining what diameter of slab you need - always think 2 feet larger in diameter than your pool, so there will be one foot of walking space around the perimeter. Then, search online for local concrete contractors. After contacting a few, (3) is the minimum, explain what you want and where. They should come to your home and look at the backyard before quoting you a price - do not trust any contractor that gives you a price over the phone without first looking at your backyard, and all estimates should be free. The slab you want needs #4 rebar, 12 inches apart going both directions - like a grid. You also want a smooth finish, not a brushed or rough texture. The slab needs to be 4-6 inches thick depending on how many gallons of water your pool holds. My pool is an 18x48 and holds 6,000 gallons of water. A gallon of water weighs 8.3 pounds. . .so my pool when filled weighs almost 50,000 pounds, so I got a 6 inch thick slab to hold the extra weight. This way, I have a 100% guarantee the slab will never crack. When you have made a decision on who will do the work and for what price, get the estimate in writing and do it. After the concrete is poured you should wait at least a week before setting the pool up because the concrete needs to cure - just because you’re able to walk on the slab the next day, it is not fully cured a couple inches down. After one week you are ok. I painted my slab with anti-skid paint from Lowe’s prior to setting up the pool (it’s paint mixed with sand), otherwise it will be very slippery with bare wet feet. And order an “Above Ground Pool Felt Pad” from Amazon to spread out and set the pool on - rather than a crappy plastic tarp.
