I used to think it was ridiculous how people could care so much about neglect or cruelty towards animals, when there are so many people suffering. But it really hit me one day that animals are vulnerable, just as vulnerable as children and completely defenseless. So it does take a special kind of sick person to harm the defenseless.

24 minutes in-Look at Gavin's compassion and warmness towards the young woman who is convinced her husband will not assault her again...saying repeatedly 'if you were my daughter'. His wisdom is so obvious. I do believe and hope this woman ended the relationship.

I had an 'aha' moment around the 5:31 mark, after Menelika's story. Gavin comments: "Basically, interacting with women in a way that would predictably make them uncomfortable.” At a previous job, they hired a young man who had attended our corporate events. He had once made me feel uncomfortable by trying to join a conversation I was in at a hotel table, and getting so close to me that I felt his hair on my neck! (I brushed at the sensation and turned around to find he had pulled up a chair next to me and was leaning in super close.) After he was hired he aggressively threatened me in the office and was labeled as "very dangerous" by someone who would know (I'm witholding the specifics to keep the story generic.) It wasn't until I saw this video, that I realized the individual's early behavior at the hotel table was purposeful and a signal. Wow.

Gosh do you think? I’m screaming at my television right now- but it’s quite clear that she’s in no way prepared to draw the proverbial line in the sand. She is in desperate need of parental involvement, and I sincerely hope someone she knows sees this and gets her the help she so desperately needs. I would question what it is in her background that has her bouncing from one abusive relationship to the next, on ridiculously short timelines, in such deep denial regarding the abuse, and suggest she get into therapy. This poor girl is painting a giant target on her back and I sincerely hope she can find some help. Before it’s too late.

I really hope that woman leaves her husband. She's being abused and is in a violent relationship. She seems to be in denial even though she's clearly discussing several pre incident indicators. He's already hit her, she's scared when he drinks and she admitted to avoiding him when he has a beer.

Hollywood and television have a lot to answer for. When I was a little girl growing up in the 1960s we watched shows like Bewitched Samantha Stevens had the perfect home the perfect marriage the home was spotless everything looked like a perfect Utopia. The Brady Bunch, Leave it to Beaver, The Donna Reed show her home was beautiful her husband was a dream husband she always looked gorgeous not a hair out of place. This is not realistic, this is a fantasy. Yet as a little girl I grew up with this implanted in my subconscious. I would love to see as standard subjects taught in high schools for students profiling and phycology so that when young women graduate from high school they will be better equipped to read the signs in people. A lot of Christians or religious people get themselves into trouble a lot because they have silly belief systems that teach that you have to be nice to everyone and Oblige to their needs. I was a Catholic for a long time and can tell you that there are predator men who go to church just to suss out Christian ladies. There use to be an old adage with some men they use to say I want to meet or settle down with a nice Christian lady. Many religious women are too kind in this area and too trusting because they think they have to be Submissive to all men especially their husbands. What women , teenagers male or female teenagers and children need to be taught is that life is not like it is in romantic movies or movies like the Truman Show, it’s no utopia. It’s all film and fantasy there is no Prince Charming or knight in Shining armour coming to whisk you away to his majestic Castle. I am wondering now whether we should be getting more wise and start realising that men may be defective in some way and are geared to be aggressive.

I live above a woman who is regularly in domestic violence incidents with a man. I hear screaming and yelling and things being thrown around and what sounds like punches being thrown. I have called the police twice. I have no idea what their story or situation is, but management says she is the only person on the lease. I have heard her scream "Get out, get out!" so that tells that he isn't living with her downstairs, but his continuing to be here means she has either given him a key to get into our building or she's letting him in voluntarily. Either way, it seems like she is allowing her abuse to continue. It's also not fair to the rest of us in this building to have to deal with the havoc these two are wreaking on us, because if this man is dangerous - and he sure sounds like it - and has weapons, then she's exposed the rest of us in the building to danger as well. I am happy I grew up in the 90's with the X-Files. "Trust No One". A motto I have always lived by and one reason I have never been in a domestic violence situation. I would never put myself in one. I read TGOF in 1997 and learned from it. I wish all women knew about this book, including the woman downstairs. I'm so tempted to prop up a copy in front of her door.

I feel for you. Due to your downstairs neighbours, you don’t feel entirely safe in your own home and even calling the police could lead to angering them and on and on the chaos goes. We owe it to society to take responsibility for our actions including this abuser and, yes, including the woman who tolerates it. I’m not about blaming the victim but I’m opposed to using victim mentality as a weapon against innocent by standers.

I think u should inform management.Everyone has the right to peaceful housing legally. Also, you may even be helping her because she doesn't have to take the blame for the police shows up.Often times victims can't call DURING the incident if the abuser is present.I know from experience.I used to ASK my neighbors to call if they ever heard certain disturbances and they never did.At the very least she will be in the position to do something to get safe regardless of her wanting to stay.I agree,it is not your fault and she should resolve this herself.I DID.IM FREE.

Pre incident indicators there too. He was acting very strange which actually made Shanann message Nicole, her best friend and “cancel” the gender reveal for the unborn baby. She kept messaging her friend telling her that Chris had been acting weird. Everyone’s intuition began to flare up after Shanann had gone missing. The neighbor immediately assumed Chris was involved and so did Nicole.

There were very clear indications well before the homicide- even years before. I truly believe she was more focused on how the outside world would perceive her and how it would affect her livelihood than her own personal safety and that of her children because ‘he wasn’t that bad’. We will dismiss an awful lot of things that in hindsight we’re very clear signs but on the surface and as a singular incident weren’t seemingly bad.

I disagree. I think hearing about their stories brings the situation into better light. Most people know intellectually that abuse is unacceptable. They may even know the basic signs to look out for. The difficulty comes in personalizing the information. By walking through someone else’s story, we can recognize the pre incident indicators and then, hopefully, see them in our own situations if needed. We can also have them in our mind for future reference. These indicators are as numerous and varied as the billions of people on the planet. Gavin running down a list can’t possibly cover them all. I’m glad you and your son are safe. That must have been a horrible experience!
