I entered the Crypta Neapolitana in Napoli (Naples), a 2000+ yr old Ancient Roman Road Tunnel built in the first century BC by Lucio Cocceio Aucto. It was built as part of a network of military infrastructures also including the Portus Lulius and other similar tunnels (the Grotta di Cocceio and Crypta Romana). Built to necessitate a direct route to the Phlegrean Fields. Although the other similar tunnels fell out of use, the Crypta Neapolitana remained in civil use until the end of the 19th century, seeing use one last time as a bomb shelter during WW2. It has inspired many legends in its over 2000 years of history.

It's just an abandoned entrance fenced over on the other side. This was being used until being destroyed in WW2, found out afterwards. Naples has a ton of abandoned places like this, most people just go to Pompei and nowhere else, not saying Pompei isn't awesome.

@@TattooedTraveler Pompei has always been on my bucket list, always been a fan of roman architecture. Love seeing ruins and artifacts left from that time. Lots of places Id actually love to see my self, such as Pantheon, Ostia Antica, Colosseum of course, Hadrian’s Villa ect. basically look up any top 10 roman ruin list and i prob want to see them all lol. Even if I dont get the chance my self, luckly we have videos like this on youtube to still see it, even if its through a screen. Thanks for filming this btw.

Awesome video, and you are seeing what many of us would love to see! It looks like a pre-Flood building that was buried in sediment that later solidified into rock. The holes in your path could have been lower floors, and above you there seemed to be higher floors.

It was road tunnel since the 1st century BC originally built to quickly move troops. There's a few similar ones in Naples but this one kept being used for civilians up until the late 1800s. Blown up purposely in WW2 by the Germans, found out afterwards.

This has to be in the top 3 most sketchy explores I have ever seen! 😬 The countless opportunities to twist your ankles or get a foot stuck is truly frightening - in addition to the possibility of some stupid rock coming down and cracking open your head. But I'm glad you did and lived to upload it, so I wouldnt even have to think about doing something as reckless as this! 😅 So, was this originally a cave that was expanded to a tunnel and later improved by brickwork or did the poor fuckers back in the day have to chisel most if not all of it out of the rock? BTW, maybe use one of those spooky views inside as a thumbnail, could trigger more clicks. I'll fetch a timestamp of one that looks really eerie...
