Very well done, Nick! So glad you showed Russell Springs. I want to visit that museum as John Butterfield was my 4th great grandfather. His son, Daniel, a general in the Union army, wrote Taps. Thank you! Thank You!

I never new this existed. I visited the Badlands in South Dakota about 10 years ago and it was really neat, but the drive there was almost just as cool bc it was so scenic and Wal-drug was on the way so we stopped there. I’m sure the commute to The badlands of Kansas is just as scenic. I love these Kansas adventures.

Thanks man, glad you're loving these! Yeah once you enter the Smoky Hill River Valley you're definitely thrust into wild west landscapes! I once spent 3 days out there shooting for the Buffalo Bill Cultural Center, and all 3 days were filled with adventures. I'm sure a family could spend a full week in the badlands area of Kansas and have an epic trip!

I KNEW it was considered bad lands!! I had to go out there to fix some oilfield tanks. We only had physical maps at the time and I loved being out there. I love Kansas. You’re opening my world view of Kansas and I am so happy to realize there is so much more then before. All with fantastic drone footage!

While on a trip to Colorado earlier this year, I stopped at Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park to hike. It is beautiful, and and great way to break up a long day's drive from Topeka to Colorado Springs. Your video has given me more ideas for places to visit when I'm in the Smokey Hills area again.

Ok so that cave and snake butte is no joke! My dad took me there 25 years ago and we went in the cave about 15 ft, it then dropped off and we didn’t have rope so I’m not sure what the end actually looks like. However, we went up top to watch the sunset and look for flint chips and like in a horror movie 7-10 rattlesnakes came out of their holes and pretty much had me surrounded. My badass dad was all calm and collected and he just casually said “Aaron, don’t freak out, but slowly step backwards towards him and don’t make any sudden movements “…. He was right, I was able to just walk right back down the trail well with in the striking range of a couple of them without getting bit or even struck at. I don’t recommend going in the cave or up top but it’s definitely worth looking at from a reasonable distance! Lol

It feels kind of bad that pretty much every beautiful place I’m Kansas is privately owned land. It’s so hard to go out and explore without trespassing and I would never want to do that!!!

The hard part is finding places to stop and rest. Does each spot have a place to stop and rest?
@abtfilmskansas
@abtfilmskansas Жыл бұрын
Totally! Castle Rock is super close to Quinter, which has a Dairy Queen as well as several other restaurants to hang out at. I always love DQ on a hot day. Monument Rock and all the other locations along hwy 83 are sandwiched between Oakley and Scott City, which both have places to relax and hotels. I like the Western Kansas Wildlife Travel Center in Oakley, which has a Subway, IHOP, Sonic, and even showers and a laundromat! Let me know if you're ever planning a trip and I'll send you a map with rest stops in mind.

I lived in Kansas for a year, in Wichita! People are great but Kansas was the WORST state for recreation I have ever been to! There are almost no trees, except near Kansas City area. The rest is all open. And yes, there are trees BUT there wasn't a single place to get lost in the woods at. At least not that i found. Towards Colorado it gets 3x worse! Like i said, the people were fantastic but I couldn't wait to move and did at the first opportunity available! Now I live a bit north of Seattle and the mountains are about a half an hour away! Plenty of trees, vegetation, animals, rain and I can get lost in the woods or mountains anytime I want! Thank you Kansas but I'm NEVER going back to Kansas again! Save your money people, you aren't missing a thing in Kansas!
@abtfilmskansas

Kansas has loads of recreation, but it isn't advertised well. You do have to do a little research, but that's why I'm doing this. I moved out to Kansas from Florida in 2011 and completely fell in love with the prairie. I hate being hemmed in by trees, I wanna see wild west landscapes and big horizons. I feel like you really missed out while you were here. Within a short drive of Wichita, there's a lot going on. You definitely missed the Cross Timbers by the way you're talking. If anyone is curious about Kansas, don't listen to this person. Ask me and I'll give you a map.
@dwinterowd

This is probably the most poorly written argument against Kansas I've seen yet. Sounds like you want a place with trees and you went to a place without trees and complained about there not being trees. Its like complaining death valley was too hot and full of sand. Its fine if that is your preference but don't tell other people to not visit a state because it doesn't suit your particular preferences.
@amr8457
@amr8457 5 ай бұрын
@@dwinterowd to bash someone's comment but not give an an opposing argument is it like a miscarriage of thought. Maybe you don't have anything good to say about Kansas yourself. You can't even successfully troll another person

I love grasslands. It’s an ecosystem that’s often overlooked, and not everyone can appreciate its beauty. Kansas had beautiful prairies before most of the land was used to grow crops; but there are still neat places to visit to enjoy seclusion, peace and quiet.
