I would need details to convince me of any parallels. We've only been given a few details so far and these characters are very much still developing.

Agreed. I enjoyed CR's first campaign for the most part, though toward the end of it I started to notice issues regarding its presentation toward the audience. Essentially it started feeling less like a d&d campaign and more like a written tv show. The second campaign felt like that from the start, but I muscled through it to the end. It became clear that they were embracing the fact they had become a brand. Obviously fake acting, no risk of character death outside of scripted events, basically nothing risky that could disrupt their brand was allowed. All of this is fine, but their insistence that it's all still an organic d&d campaign when it clearly isn't is disrespectful to their audience. Unfortunately their fanbase is rabidly loyal, so they'll pretend to see none of it and act surprised and impressed at every last turn. I only got through a few episodes of C3 before I gave up on it. The whole thing feels too fake now. High Rollers has never lost its authenticity, and Mark is open and transparent about when parts are going to be less organic. It actually feels like a genuine d&d game that we simply get to watch, rather than a pre-made and pre-written campaign made specifically for people to watch. It's better when the game is for them and we are allowed to spectate, as opposed to when the game is specifically for the spectators.

My only real complaints about CR campaign 2 are that it ended rather abruptly, and the climactic battle felt like it had no real stakes behind it. I stopped watching campaign 3 because I just couldn't get invested in the characters, and the reveal that Sam slipped a tasteless sex joke into FCG's tragic backstory killed any sense of immersion I might have had. I love High Rollers because it really feels like they're playing a game, and they just happen to be doing a show. Ever since, say, the last third of CR campaign 2, it feels like it's the other way around.

@@calconone7250 agreed while Mercer has done some intresting world building/storytelling the show feels very fake when any level of scrutiny is applied, like a mime performance where you have to believe theres a wall even though you can see there isn't one.

Agreed. I don't want to shit on CR, but it feels like stage performance more than a game with friends now. HR has retained that perfectly imperfect vibe that makes it feel natural still.

What I thought about Xhanthius' introduction, made me think that even if the pain is the light so is what he wants to have and maybe even needs. These painful things are just hands reaching in to steal it. Infinity is the spiral inside of the world of light and darkness. I think I'm not good at the rp, but the "sounds" these characters give next to the background the dm has built is just nice. Sure I hear it like through "the broken phone", but I try to use all of these snippets to come up with something else myself. Guess why I think that about Xhantius? I have epilepsy, and these two have similar flavors.

With the play test rules that they are using, you can get 10 levels of exhaustion before you die and there is no compounding effects like 2014 5e. Just a stacking -1 penalty

A -1 penalty is actually a lot! And stacking up to 10 will make it ridiculous.

The exhaust penalty seems reasonable for 1 level but getting exhaustion after 1 hour of walking through a mine is a joke. Just feels like punishing your players

​@@adamball6001 Mark has shown repeatedly that he's willing to change mechanics that seem unbalanced or unfair based on feedback from the players. At the end of the day this is a group of friends playing a game. Their experience at the table is the most important thing, and tbh watching them when they're not enjoying themselves just isn't fun. If they have an issue with that rule, they'll probably talk about it off screen. If they don't but Mark feels it's unfair, they'll change it. So maybe it goes, maybe it changes, maybe it stays exactly as it is. It's kind of none of our business. No one is forcing you to use it in your home games.

Exhaustion is just rubbish, except in the most unusual circumstances (which this was not). It is not rubbish for the reason you might have expected, ie that it is unrealistic, no, you can easily justify it. It is rubbish because it is tedious to play. Suppose the characters just fail to play along and simply state they are going to rest until the exhaustion is recovered from - that would just make the mechanic rather pointless, as what is the point of it, if it is being circumvented ?

Idk why aliens is a stretch for some people, given universes are vast and multiple (And even in dnd you get races specifically FROM space - astral elves, giff, plasmoid.) A ship crashing onto a random planet that hasn't developed space travel isn't bizarre. And religions get formed around anything people can't explain - hence cults.

Hard to tell either some of the homebrew but they have before. They're only human. I advocate for maximum transparency with homebrew and house rules for just this reason.

I think you're the one who needs to chill out. He's also aware of the fact that these are played on a live stream and they only have a certain amount of time before the session ends. Something you should keep in mind, this is a source of revenue for them as well and if they start losing viewers because the story's not progressing and people are getting bored, they're going to lose money and viewers. Not to mention as the DM it is his job to continue the story along and keep it moving.
