What if we find intelligent life tomorrow? What can you learn from Nobel Prize winners?
John is joined by Dr. Brian Keating to discuss his new book Into the Impossible: Think Like a Nobel Prize Winner: Lessons from Laureates to Stoke Curiosity, Spur Collaboration, and Ignite Imagination in Your Life and Career. How can you unlock creativity and imagination to inspire, teach, and lead? What mental models do the world’s most accomplished scientists use to supercharge their creativity and strengthen their most precious collaborations?
Dr. Keating also discusses his involvement in the Galileo Project, a new project led by Dr. Avi Loeb of Harvard to search our skies for UAP and search our solar system for exo archeology or alien artifacts.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: You may notice that this episode has cameras ON for both John and Brian. Let us know what you think of that! Also, John now has a dedicated studio, which is being finished up now but this is the first episode from there! A tour of the studio will be part of a MAJOR announcement we will be making about the future of how to enjoy Event Horizon... A paid podcast version of the show, live stream QnA sessions with John (including a phone number to call into), and much more will be announced fully soon. Let us know what you want from the show. More to come!

Content is exceptional. These are just the suggestions. I would anyways appreciate the channel equally. Although a few things if it is possible, 1. Background music, I associate you videos with a soothing and calming music, it somehow helps to concentrate over talks more. Videos are supplemented with that. 2. Maybe introductory and the final phase can be Camera on, because it would be great to know the participants. In middle the old format is fine for me. Good work

Unless there were large alien crafts visible in the atmosphere, I don’t think most people would care even if we found intelligent life. I asked my girlfriend how she would feel if they found microbes on Mars. She said “well that would be boring.” She’s on her second chance now.

I never understood people who are uninterested in microbial alien life. I mean, that's the most likely form of life you're going to find. Some people want a sci-fi film. They're not interested in the details.

I often get into such a meditative state when listening to all your videos John, both these conversations and the ones from your main channel, that when the video ends I snap back to reality and realize I forgot to do whatever I was going to do while listening/watching. As the video ended I just now realized I have a bowl of ice-cream that I made specifically to enjoy while watching this, but only had a bit of before my surroundings faded away. I'm now slurping away at the former ice-cream without a single regret!

First, yes, please keep the interviewer/interviewee cameras and keep improving the graphics and images correlation to the discussion. All the best in your expansion plans. Second, it seemed that at some point Brian veered off and answered a question you did not ask, at least directly. The controversy of disclosure in the UAP field is orthogonal to Keating's points. It is not that most of those who call for disclosure believe there is some coverup in the general scientific community. Rather, it lies within portions of the US government, technology and defense industries. Many think past efforts of particular groups and individuals revealed in FOIA requests and suits show that outright lies and the issue of national security interests are dishonestly used to hold back some amazing revelations from the country and the world. It is a very deep and broad topic that could take someone years to explore comprehensively. It also seems that anyone who would or does become part of the leaking of such information (implied to be probabilistically assured by Keating) would be dismissed by the unhealthily incurious as liars, fools or scammers. We see that quite regularly from within and without the UAP field. I would also take issue with how he frames the extremes of the two sides of the issue but I've probably written more than enough at this point.

G'day John, I thoroughly enjoyed that, my first exposure to 'Event Horizon'. Although I've been a subscriber to your regular KZfaq presentations for a long time, I usually get on to KZfaq late at night, here in Tasmania, after a day or writing. A time at which I'm most prone to 'nodding off'; forgive me but I'm in my 67th year and apart from writing, my days are somewhat long and routinely busy. I attempted an 'Event Horizon' a few months back and missed most of it while in the land of Nod. So, from now on, I shall take in an 'Event Horizon' while I'm having my breakfast. So, that is your 'new' studio. I'm impressed. I have done radio broadcasting and producing on and off for nearly 40 years. I love the feel and atmosphere of a radio studio. That's me in my avatar, there on the left, hiding behind a radio studio microphone, trying not to react to some publicity person from the station who barged into our studio with a camera while I was trying to talk to the host during my regular weekly broadcast. I was also impressed by the presence of an electric musical keyboard; every studio should have one! Yes, I liked how you had separate cameras for you and your guest. What an interesting chap, I must take a look at his books. I liked his spirit for argument and deeply questioning everything, as every good scientist should. I did find that 'Event Horizon' is further above my head than your shorter videos. I find my understanding of your brief videos is in the range of 65 to 70 percent; whereas I grasped only about 60 percent of what Dr Keating was saying half the time. I'm cool with that. I've learned to like science subjects without the, generally, necessary talent of comprehensive understanding. I've been a cook, a journalist, a film critic, an author of a couple of books; one slim, comic volume about being a dole 'bludger' and a tome on the history of Australian films so, there is nothing in my background that says I should understand anything scientific, however, I still find your videos and those from 'Curious Droid' fascinating. In all of my years in radio, I've only twice correctly 'envisaged' what a broadcaster would look like, and you, John, are one of them. You are almost exactly as I expected purely from hearing your excellent voice. Might I ask, are you American or Canadian? My ear can't tell the difference as it has been ruined by listening to variances in Australian accents which are, mostly, harsh, although our radio broadcasters are generally a lot easier on the ear. Happily, hardly anyone on our airwaves sound like 'Crocodile Dundee'. One is, of course, rambling, so, I'll sign off now. Just wanted to let you know that even though I'm not a 'sciencey' type, I really like your videos, now in long form as well as short. Cheers, thank you and all the best! BH

Dr Brian Keating: Best analysis ever of the UFO phenomenon. I hope we can take this opportunity to study this and take our knowledge of Physics to the next level. How does a Physicist feel about the Government classifying information that could shed light into new Physics??? I would like to know your perspective because this is a possibility..

“The seeker after truth is not one who studies the writings of the ancients and, following his natural disposition, puts his trust in them," the first scientist wrote, "but rather the one who suspects his faith in them and questions what he gathers from them, the one who submits to argument and demonstration and not the sayings of human beings whose nature is fraught with all kinds of imperfection and deficiency. Thus the duty of the man who investigates the writings of scientists, if learning the truth is his goal, is to make himself an enemy of all that he reads, and, applying his mind to the core and margins of its content, attack it from every side. he should also suspect himself as he performs his critical examination of it, so that he may avoid falling into either prejudice or leniency or bias”

YES YES!!!! Video is the one and only thing i've longed for on this channel. Your spoken content is far and above most and all that has been missing was a visual element for me personally since I consume the content visually.

A peer-reviewed journal publishes a retraction if error is proven. A White House lawn announcement follows the political dictate, "Never apologize. Never explain". That is, on the White House Lawn, it's politics, not peer review.

My question is if we have as much difficulty as we do leaving the planet, what would it be like for a species living on a larger planet with stronger gravity? If a planet has a stronger gravity, wouldn't that mean that the species itself would be heavier combined with the increased energy to leave make it almost impossible for some species to become a space faring civilization?
@MNewton

Even better if you're home star is in one of the galactic voids or in a clear space in a nebula and doesn't have any other large bodies in system then the night sky would be completely black. It would follow no one would even think that anything was out there at all. You don't really need a very powerful telescope to see to the horizon so large telescopes wouldn't be invented. You may get a very advanced civilization that has no notion that the wider universe contains multitudes of worlds.

Don't take this wrong: but I listen to your channel when I'm going to sleep. But, I keep coming back. I watched the last half of this one and I do like being able to put faces to voices, but I would just do that occasionally, kind of like you did today. Because I'd hate to lose the visuals. That view from above and behind the Earth looking at the stars was stunning.

Oh by all means, use it to sleep. That's part of my intent. Think about how awesome it is to be able to do meaningful science interviews that also help folks to drift off to a good sleep.
