A couple years ago you gave a broken family a great deal of comfort by allowing us to play this cover at our son's funeral. The anniversary of his passing is in July, but tonight I started writing a story in his memory. This exact video is what I just played to get me started on my son's story. I felt a need to reach out and thank you again for the kindness you showed us, and to tell you again what a wonderful person you are. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world. I wish you all the best.

Deepest gratitude. This song means so much to me, and unlike most others, to me it a song of Hope, a promise of relief from the chronic pain and illness I live with - that when the time comes, I will truly only be going Home. I know why the white gulls call, but my work in this life is far from finished yet. Peace.

it really isn't often that a song hits me so hard i cry. this one made me think of (this will seem dumb, i know) a dog i had who died a few years ago. i raised her from 3 weeks old after her mother rejected her. she was more compassionate than most _people_ i know. she even saved my life before. as strong and willful as she was though, addison's disease cut her down like she was nothing.

Dustin Noyfba That doesn't seem dumb at all! I lost my dog Smilla last year(the day after her death Peter uploaded his "Into the West"-cover, i didn't see that cover until summer though), and when we buried her on sunday(she died on Friday the 31st January) I sang "Into the West" for her at her grave. Dogs are wonderful animals, loyal and unselfish. I used to watch the Lord of the Rings with her next to me...but I hope that we will meet again, and I hope you and your dog will do the same :) May God bless you!

Lyrics Lay down Your sweet and weary head Night is falling You’ve come to journey's end Sleep now And dream of the ones who came before They are calling From across the distant shore Why do you weep? What are these tears upon your face? Soon you will see All of your fears will pass away Safe in my arms You're only sleeping What can you see On the horizon? Why do the white gulls call? Across the sea A pale moon rises The ships have come to carry you home And all will turn To silver glass A light on the water All souls pass Hope fades Into the world of night Through shadows falling Out of memory and time Don't say: «We have come now to the end» White shores are calling You and I will meet again And you'll be here in my arms Just sleeping What can you see On the horizon? Why do the white gulls call? Across the sea A pale moon rises The ships have come to carry you home And all will turn To silver glass A light on the water Grey ships pass Into the West

(I know this is three years old, but,) A couple days ago, I finished Return of the King, extended edition, thus completing my first ever run-through of the extended trilogy. I always liked LoTR, in a passive, casual way, but I never loved it until I saw the depth and life in the extended versions of the films. This song, especially your rendition, reminds me of the way I feel about Tolkien's epic story. Stories and music change lives. You're doing a great thing here, Peter and Taylor. Thank you for the music.

Thank you so much for this version. I come from a part of the world where the sound of the violin is the breath of the soul of the land. Adding the strings only makes this song more endearing to me. It may be sound morbid, but I have often said I want this song performed upon my death. It speaks to the core of my beliefs. Again, thank you.

Great song Peter. A bit of constructive critique, the bass vocals were a bit loud and it lent a sort of robotish or synthesized. This could just be me and it truly doesn't detract from the quality of this performance.

Loud!, the bass was awesome, as a Deep voice person i think it was the perfect volume, not to loud to hear him but not to soft for it to make no difference
@AaronRogge
@AaronRogge 10 жыл бұрын
In addition to personal taste, the 'quality' of the balance can be heavily affected by the system you are listening on and whether it emphasizes certain frequencies. Many systems boost the bass to compensate for poor bass response or to just make the sound more "full" and "warm", The worst case is when a system boosts the bass but can't reproduce all of the frequencies...just bottoming out. The result is "mud" in the low end and it can totally destroy a song. All that aside, personally, I liked the bass and thought the balance was just fine ;) I did a comparison between this version and the previous version. I like them both, but this one is my favorite. The strings add that extra touch that makes it shine. Keep up the awesome music!

Amazing addition to an already amazing piece! The accompanying strings really added a more balanced tone to the music. Thank you for making videos, it is always a pleasure to watch them.
