@@Rocky..1343 great question! I personally don't agree with a lot of Navayana's views about Buddhism being a pessimistic doctrine. I think that, yes, on the surface, Siddharth Gautam Buddha's teachings seem very nihilistic at first glance (all life is suffering etc.) but when put into application and really examined one finds it is a doctrine that preaches increadible freedom and joy. Once we realize these bitter truths we can find immense joy, not from external pleasure, but from within ourselves, and it teaches that the way towards that isn't through philosophizing, but simple, humble practice. The Buddha said that once you realize how perfect everything is you will tilt your head back and laugh at the sky, because we live in an absurdist universe and we should look at it with awe but take it only with a grain of salt. Siddhartha set out to free himself from suffering and in order to do that he had to acknowledge the often cruel nature of existence and he found that freedom from suffering comes, not when we are averse to suffering but when we accept it with open arms, again, through simple practice. Siddhartha also said to look at everything critically and I think Navayana's founder absolutely did that and I have great respect for that, however I think that he focused to hard on the sometimes negative tone of Buddhist philosophy and didn't manage to dig into the practical aspect or how we must change ourselves, not the world around us, to achieve happiness. That's just my two cents though! I think whatever guides you towards living a better life is fine by me! Also slight note, hinayana is seen as a somewhat derrogatory term these days and the term theravada is much preferred now, just FYI! 😊

The hierarchical aspect of Tibetans is repeated to this day as a display of Hindu caste system, though not nearly as rigid due to the Buddhist influence (Sanskrit), and many of the devas etc are actually Buk superstitious beliefs (I'm not judging anyone, btw). HHDL is a pope-like figure amongst Tibetans and, similar to the pope, HHDL can say this or that "should" be a certain way, but that does not obligate anyone to do as he says (except those in his immediate vicinity). He tries to act as a guide and example, not unlike a sherpa :) He's not going to push you over a cliff not purposely lead anyone astray. He's just going to try to guide with the light that he has. But he's not the only guide on the planet with light. Understand? It's correct that there's no "lamaism". Just as there's no rinpochism or druponism. So it might be can said it is Je Tsongkhapa Rinpoche, which is have connection with Atisha.

An enlightened being who agrees to be reborn here in order to help ALL beings reach their enlightenment as well. This presupposes that in doing so, stopping the cycle of suffering will be accelerated. There's no other reason to commit oneself to being bodhisattva than that, because you are delaying your own spiritual journey. Does that help?
