This is the first tutorial in a series of lessons on how to play jazz ukulele. In this video, I'm using the song Moondance by Van Morrison to teach an approach to minor7 chords.
There are 4 different shapes for playing minor7 chords on a ukulele. We'll start with 4 minor chords in open position (Am, Gm, Fm, Dm). Each can be converted into a minor7 chords (Am7, Gm7, Fm7, Dm7). Along the way, we'll explore how these minor7 chord shapes are moveable, allowing you to transpose the chord up and down the fretboard. At the end, I'll also show a couple ways on how to apply minor7 chords in your own playing.

Just a comment- not sure if it’s just me...I would love for the video angle to be more to your right so that I could see your finger tips landing more into the fretboard. Does that make sense? Right now I see more of your knuckle and I’d love to see the fretboard more. It could just be me and ignore! 🤷🏼‍♀️ Thanks for reading!

This is so helpful! I’m a bit frustrated with barring the E&A strings my middle finger by bending the top joint backwards! It hurts! Does it get easier? Maybe I just need to stretch it out more? Sorry to be a newb, just never played these kinds of chords before!

Totally understand! It gets easier over time. But there's a couple things you can try... don't let your wrist stick out too much, otherwise it'll make your middle finger bend backwards too much. There's an alternate way to hold that chord, where your index finger is on the G string, middle on the E, ring on A, pinky on C. Hope that helps!
