Doing a social science undergrad degree in the middle of lockdown has been hard to say the least. Not having regular access to books and the uni library I can say thag your videos on ideology and welfare state have helped so much. Think you should do a lecture on how and to what extent ideology has shaped the welfare state from 1979 to present. Including Boris and the Covid-19 pandemic. Also I've found that Thatcher is covered by almost everyone from every angle but Blair not so much. So something on Blair specifically would be helpful. Thank you

this doesnt work for ideologies like anarchism which are universally agreed to be left winged. The left simply wants power in the hands of the public (ex: economic leftists want economic democracy aka socialism or social leftists want social equality so no race gender ect holds more power) while the right likes power in the hands of a few (eg: capitalism) and sees this as necessary or even in some cases (such more conservative flavours of liberalism and fascism) beneficiary to society

take the army as an example... the role of the military is to protect and preserve the nation against external threats/dangers... in their proper position, how could they participate in one man-one vote system... military is preserved regardless of what man is sitting as supreme leader of all societies(nation)... spiritual institutions/bodies... in their proper position in the spiritual pursuits, favoring comparing individuals is not in the practice of spiritual pursuits... it is not proper for them to participate in a one man-one vote system... the aging people and the sick people... etc. etc. one man-one vote is DELUSION...

paul talks politics... your analyses of western ideals and their methods is very good... go back to your analyses and you touched CONSERVATIVES... you see that out of many many terminologies of emerged ideologies, CONSERVATIVES REMAIN COMSERVATIVES... as it is... this is the very atom that western politicians neglect to study and give value/significance in the implementation of a new ideology... new generations SMIRK conservatives instead of respecting conservatives as the atom part to base everything new to the society... as a result, there is a clash of interpretations... conservatives would see the disregard of new generation politics as ARROGANCE and let them do what they think they know... in india china followed by moscow and teheran... MAINTAIN(protect & preserve) the ancestral (conservatives in the west)ways while formulating what is appropriate for the changing of the times... west influences are allowed to enter their societies but at a limit... there are ancestral ways that are definitely maintained no matter how new young leaders shout to the top of their voices say "freedom"... ancestral ways never ever allowed total freedom... ancestral ways has restrictions to degree of freedom generations after generations... the WEST, in themselves, overpowered the conservatives for their new ideas(ideologies)... this point in time, the WEST is in TOTAL DISARRAY... the WEST now review rewind recall going back to square one the beginning of their existence, the conservatives... note: definition of words differ in the east as to the west...

Right-wing means favouring hierarchical social relations. All this surface level shit about government doing stuff or not is pretty dumb. Do you favour hierachical social relations? Yes = right-wing; No = left-wing; Maybe/depends = centre.

@@drfegg288 left vs right wing stems from the french revolution. So was the monarchists on the right wing were they anti govenrment? Huh? No, they used it, they used the govenrment to oppress the common people, left wing wants to use the govenrment to oppress rich people and to bolster common people's. This is his point I can assume

@@zac5572 this is true in it's origin of the therms left/right, but not in their current use (...necessarily - personally, as an American, i think the left/right dichotomy fails in current politics... I don't know whether that's true across the pond). This is an excellent (and literate) description of the left and right in today's politics. Whether it's *accurate* is a different issue altogether; I am not familiar enough with the politics of the UK to hold any kind of opinion on that topic; but being wrong doesn't make someone uneducated, ignorant, illiterate, or stupid.... it just makes one *wrong.* So whether the fellow at the top had any degree of the argument you made, it fails because it suggests that "if you don't agree with me, then you must be an ignorant fool;" the absolute arrogance of that implied view is... staggering.
