Thanks, Sam. That's extremely kind of you. I'll keep making videos that help my in-class students. Once that's done, I may turn to sophomore and later physics classes. That would be fun!

This video was awesome, I'm revising for a physics exam right now about waves and I understood pretty much everything... Except refraction, but now your video has cleared everything up for me and I totally get it, thanks!

I still dont understand why the direction of the vector should change just because the velocity in another medium decreases. Is it due to some interference properties of the waves that the direction is changed?

The road and swamp has an error. As the marching band enters the swamp, the wave length should decrease making the spacing gradually get smaller. Hope this helps.

But why is a photon comparable to a 4 wheel cart or a marching band in this situation?

Interesting analogy but the car could go straight at any angle of entry onto the carpet. The car analogy fails because the left and right side of the car are connected to each other and drag on one side will affect the other. Rays of light, on the other hand, are independent of each other! A single ray of light has no width and so no left or right to affect itself. Something else more subtle is the cause of light apparently bending and slowing in different mediums.

when truck enter straight towards carpet medium, front wheels speed slows down, but rear wheels have higher speed, so don't you think it will perform wheelie...???

This may make perfect sense relative to the mathematics, but it does not explain why the individual billions of quanta striking the surface of the water, or whatever, keeps lateral spacing but not longitudinal spacing. What quality or property of quanta requires this queer asymmetry. Put another way, how does an individual quantum "know" the angle that it encounters the density interface, and therefore what new angle it needs to change to? Why do the quanta not simply slow down, but maintain their original direction?

sorry but the car and his 4 tire´s only do that because they connected so a car would do on sand, if you just slow down the direction does not change, the other tire of the car is moving the direction of the other tire of the car i used 2 pens for this with 2 distances and moved them into a direction now i slowed down 1 but the direction/angle does not change they keep going the same direction i have set the second example i guess its electrons photons or something but now there is a diffrens they are not connected to each others like with the car but still why should the direction change ? lets say they dont then the electrons/photons/ect on the right side just would hit a few later since light is very fast the eye could not see the differens and the direction or angle would not change this video has the same problem: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/erhda72DqK6niH0.html he used some persons but they also not only slowing down they also change the direction they look at looks like something is missing here like the material conditions and the true travel of the light there is a third video what says light acts as sine wave and if it hits glass the sine strenght or amplitude changes (aka slow down) but if the wave change the color should change too since light have a absolute size and a wavelenght the light is undoubltful doing that in that way also the calculations are correct (seens the light rays and lens examples) but it seems the real information about the photons and how they travel is incomplete its not a mirror that reflects light to a different direction it must be at the first part of the glass thats where the light direction changes and the distance between 2 points (being on a 2d example here) the lights enters must be focus for this question the question is now what the photons in the glass material really are doing, how they react or what are the conditions
