clean and concise thanks 👌good for going through step by step along (note: this is for maximization, minimization is a little bit different) For Minimization you need to change the following: - select column with _most negative_ cj - zj number instead (first in case of equals) - still select row with the smallest positive ratio value - optimal solution is found once all cj - zj numbers are positive when minimizing instead of negative. (greater or equal to zero) Everything else stays the same. also note that the cj don't change throughout the iteration so no need to check for them :)

You must have the objective function (something to maximize or minimize) to have a linear programming problem.

Very clear presentation of the simplex method. Why do we select the pivot row with the minimum ratio? If I select another row, am I still guaranteed with an optimal feasible solution?

Selecting another row is like taking the wrong turn on a trip. You might still arrive at your destination but it will take longer.

I think around 2:10 is potentially wrong or at least misleading. The z is just the cost vector described with the given basis B (that is, the other variables not on B are set to 0 in the cost vector.

Here the basis is B={3,4} for the 3rd and 4th variables. We set both to x_1 and x_2 to 0, and in the objective function we had 0 for the coefficients of s_1 and s_2 (they were 0 in the cost vector). So we have 7*0+6*0+0*16+0*16 for basic feasible solution v =(0,0,16,16)

I started by writing: S1= .... and S2 = .... from 0:25, then pivoting x1 with S1 gives X1= 8-2X2- s1/2 and S2 = -12 + 4X2 + 3S1/2 BUT this implies Z = 56-8X2-7S1/2, which means max(Z) = 56. Where is the mistake ? could someone explain ? I chose to pivot S1 since I called the slack variables X3 and X4 (instead of S1 and S2) and I've applied Bland's rule (I can only use this rule at the exam).
