Intro to Templates & Metafields - Shopify Beginners Tutorial

Demonstrating the differences between Templates and Metafields in Shopify.
Templates are for grouping products, or modifying the design of product pages based on a certain type of product.
Metafields are for outputting content on a page that is unique for each product.
Of course, there are no strict rules and both metafields and templates can be used for different creative purposes.

Very well presented. I noted at another of your vids that undertstanding the interrelationships of all the different areas where changes can be made is a bit of a challenge. The co-dependencies of this compartmentalized universe that Shopify has built can be daunting to comprehend without a 3 dimensional overview (or without such well thought out presentations as you have made here). Thanks!

Thanks for the helpful info Ed! Partially thanks to your tutorials, we were able to build metaobject pages each showing information about our ingredients. And we were able to list the ingredients on each product page. However, I can't figure out how to show the products on each metaobject page. Do you have a tutorial on this?

Hi Ed, thanks for another tutorial. When creating metafields and metobjects, what is the purpose of selecting "storefronts" under access options. Mine work fine without selecting "storefronts".

Shopify definitely needs to make it so one can put the metafield drop down only on specific products that it relates to.

Excellent video.Thank you for sharing it ,Ed.I have a question here.I would like to add to my store a filter to facilitate the choice of users when selecting a gift, so in order to filter all existing products I would like to add some criteria such as : 1)is the product suitable for a gift (Y/N -maybe a checkbox),2)what gender is the product suitable for -Female,Male, Unisex;3)What age is the product suitable for - Adults,Teens , Children (above y.o), Toddlers, Babies. What would you recommend for me to do in this case?

Your content is amazing! I need to watch it all. Do you have any videos on how to add variants that link to another product page? For example if my product has a Regular and Large version, I'd like the Regular product page to show the Large option, which then takes the customer to the Large product page, and vice versa. Thank you :)

Hi Ed - is it possible to create a product list in a collection using metafields? I am looking for a solution to include product "cards" in a collection that feature the product title, price, etc., as well as variant metafield data for each individual variant of a product. Thanks!

Is there any way to have variant-specific information in PDP? Let's say I have a variant called Size and it has 3 options, Large, Medium, and Small. Now what I want to show is a piece of text snippet depending on which options I'm currently selecting. Each text snippet is different and which one will be visible will depend on which option is currently selected. Is there any way I can set the variant's options metafield like this? Thanks in advance.

I know this isn't related to the video but, is it normal that you cannot change the color scheme of the default product template? I can't change mine.

Hi Ed! I'm from Colombia and I installed the Down theme on shopify. I followed your instructions but the information does not appear in the collapsive row. The ingredients box appears empty in all products. Do you know why this could happen? Thanks for your videos :)

I want to integrate a different specific code (javascript or json) on each product page the problem is that there is (a json meta field) but I can't find in (customize theme-product page) a block or section with structured data to apply the json meta field. Can you help me find out which block or section I should choose in (customize theme) (product page) to modify the structured data in order to integrate javascript code into my product page? can you give me the answer in writing by replying to my comment? PLEASE
