Anxiety is bringing all the emotional baggage, both literally and metaphorically

I think these emotions color schemes indicate a mixture of the core five emotions. Envy being teal colored makes her a mixture of Sadness and Disgust. Ennui is just a darker blue for a more intense sadness basically. Anxiety seems like Fear with Joy’s manic energy.

To all those asking why we don’t see these emotions in others, it’s probably because those emotions were not in the command centers at the time. Her parents might not have depression or anxiety. The other kids might not be at that stage yet. I have both depression and anxiety, so those emotions are very present for me.

I wouldn't be surprised if Anxiety is also a helpful character in the end because anxiety can actually help sometimes. It's when anxiety goes out of control that it turns destructive to a person's life. When you get a pit in your stomach for a reason you can't name only for you at the last moment to realize why you're anxious and prevent something bad from happening it's amazing. But when you are sitting alone in your room sipping a bottle of water only for you to be suddenly convinced you've been actually INHAILING the water and you're drowning on land it's the worst feeling in the world because that anxiety attack will legitimately feel like you got hit by a truck.

Anxiety is the worst to deal with in my personal opinion...but maybe that's just because I have severe Generalized Anxiety Disorder AND Social Anxiety Disorder so I'm anxious pretty much all the time 😅

I think ennui is dangerous too, cause you may lose interest in life itself

The new emotions are basically branched off "sub types" from all five of the original emotions. Anxiety is from fear. Ennui is from Disgust. Embarrassment is from sadness And Envy is from Joy. The only emotion that doesnt really have a sub type to it. Is anger.

for envy's role, im guessing that rileys hockey team get a new member whos either going to be better than riley or gets complimented a lot leaving riley to feel left out, or maybe her parents have another baby but that plots been done to death in animated movies but imo envy has NOTHING on anxiety when it comes to which emotion is worse

Anxiety is H3ll to live with. I have generalized anxiety disorder and it’s severe enough to be on my list of disabilities… I hate it. It’s not my worst disability but it still takes a lot of my independence and daily life away

I’ve heard of the emotions, envious, embarrassment and anxious, but what is the Ennui emotion I’ve never heard of that emotion before.

Basically Joy+Fear=Anxeity Sadness+Joy=Embarassment Disgust+Sadness=Envi Anger+Sadness=Ennui

The problem I have with the new emotions concept of the second movie, is it doesn't fit with the conclusion of the first. We saw what riley's parents minds looked like, which was all the emotions opperating in tandem, as opposed to riley where one emotion would become push every other emotion to the side and become the sole controller, only to change at the end of the movie with the introduction of mixed emotion memories. A logical way to build upon what was established would be to create new emotions using pairings of old emotions. Embaresment could be a pairing of fear and sadness/disgust for example, as you are upset about what happened and are afraid of what people will think

I don't know if it's OCD but it always bothered me that we had red, yellow, blue, green and purple as the colors of Riley's emotions, but not orange and pink. Seems like we are finally getting those. Although I do wonder why we are getting a second purple one, couldn't they have come up with a different color for that one?

I really hope that green teal one isn’t envy. Riley is turning 13 and is hitting puberty. I feel like she should be either desire or passion. Because during puberty as when one’s hormones start to go haywire.

Thanks for all this great info. I feel like there will be no deaths that we get emotional over but cry because of how much we relate to these new emotions. Also, maya hawke’s libe delivery is absolutely perfect for this character. I can’t wait to see it!!

I have a question. Why didn't we see these new emotions in the heads of Railes parents in the first movie? Were they there and we didn't see them or what? Inside Out and its sequel are good for helping kids with these emotions.

They should call him/her Boredom in the movie instead of Ennui because the word Boredom is a lot more commonly used.

How do we not see the other emotions in her parents and others’ minds in the first movie?

As a master in social work student with an undergraduate degree in psychology I would like to say that the original five emotions are "primary emotions" which are innate and the new emotions are "secondary emotions" which are learned and derived from primary emotions.

For me the new emotions dont make much sense because theyre too complex and they can be made out of already existing emotions. If we were to go by Plutchik's wheel, the actual new emotions that should have been added are Surprise, Anticipation and Trust and this way we would have a complete base for all the other existing emotions. It would've been so neat and tidy this way aaagh pity Still hyped for the movie tho

Theory: Since Envy is a negative emotion that has the desire for someone else's possessions, it desires the feel to steal, so it might be why Envy might be the villain for the sequel.

Anxiety is an emotion I personally struggled with. So I know she probably will take over, thinking she means well, but actually ends up causing more problems than she first expected.

Rylie is gonna be a little klepto in this movie. She's gonna be at a party where she develops Ennui. Sees something she wants and Envy makes her take it, partnered with Sadness. Joy and Anxiety start to have fun with said item. Feeling the rush from stealing. And when Rylie gets caught, Embarrassed is gonna take the stage. With Sadness in tow, they will feel the repercussions of what they did

Why couldnt they add positive emotions?! Guess she will be jealous about a boyfriend, embarassed in front of him i think. All about falling in love, easy. Heard the word Ennui in total drama, there was a character of this name. But in Polish the emotions name will not be Boredom but Apathy. Meaning that Riley will be depressed

It is a little confusing. Not only because these emotions are not present in other people(Ex. Anxiety is not present in the boy at the arcade when the "girl" siren goes off) but also because Riley DID experience some of these emotions within the first film WITHOUT the "emotions" themself? (Ex. Riley embarrassed after crying in front of her class) So, clearly they are not necessary emotions but if these are the new emotions, it does seem like it will be a predictable plot.

Im interested in seeing where this goes, but all the new emotions could fall under the existing 5. like how Sadness was in charge of loss in the first film. Bordem, and embarrassment can both be covered by discust. Anxiety under fear. The only new one that's interesting is Envy.

Watching this, I have a small nitpick... each of the four NEW emotions has ties or a 'leash' to one of the four core emotions. Envy can lead to Disgust Anxiety can lead to Fear Boredom (Ennui) can lead to Sadness Embarrassment can lead to Anger. The only Core emotion that doesn't have a sub-emotion, is Joy, and that leaves the movie to reveal one last surprise character that can lead to Joy- Love. Love is something so complex and yet so pure, it can have every single emotion (Core and New) involved. But Love is an emotion that is often associated with Joy/Happiness. That's my theory, at least.

Can someone please explain why they went with ennui? Just call him boredom since that’s what he is. And on that point why randomly use a French word when everyone else has English words for names? It’s like naming a group of English based characters after flowers and randomly naming one of them Ayame becuase it’s Japanese for a flower.

Envy: A cute kid like face. Cute eyes are an indication of “I want that” from a kid. Envy. Embarrassment: the height and clothes he wears resembles him, the hoodie hides his face, but the height is what embaraces him. The pink color is the representation of blushing when embarrassed. Ennui: the dark lavender skin color shows how teenagers dress and are, usually in black. Ennui is every teen representation, for example, when you are on your phone bored, you close eyes half way, just like ennui. Anxiety: from the teeth and hair. She is a great example of anxiety. Usually when someone is anxious, they tend to look at their own little imperfections, such as anxiety’s slightly off teeth. The hair just represents her state of mind, probably revealing how she is mostly anxious that she messes with her hair frequently, or forgets to do her hair.

Yeah, anxiety would've been the worst of all... especially envy... because for anxiety... if you don't let something bother you, go away at all... it will hurt you even more if you keep your anxiety inside... so how can you deal with anxiety... by doing things that make you feel better... and much braver if you will... like meditation... hanging out with your friends... watch romantic movies or action movies or comedy shows that you know and love... read books or comics that you know and love... draw pictures of what's bothering you and make the picture of what's bothering you to turn into things that stop the things that bother you... think of you in your favorite place in the whole universe... take baths/showers... eat your favorite food... play video games that you know and love... and think about the happy moments that you've had so far... as for envy, ooh envy is like half anger... half neediness... so you don't want to have envy... so how do you stop envy from controlling you... is by the same thing you do for anxiety... but as for embarrassment and the French word for boredom that i forgot about... well... that's almost easy... for embarrassment if you feel like that something is embarrassing to you... just don't let it happen again... and for the French word of boredom... just look around, you might find something interesting that will keep you from getting bored... like, let's just say if it's a rainy day... and you are wearing rain wear... and it's boring... just jump in puddles of water... or if it's snowing and you are bundled up and snow looks bland... just build a snowman, and if you have a hill full of snow... grab a sled and slide down on it... or if it's a hot summer day and you are bored... just have a pool party with your friends and family... or if you love the 4th of july... I just have a 4th of july party and light up the fireworks at night... so there you go... that's all I have to say, I have work that needs to get abd I shall see y'all next time and have a safe Valentine's Day...

I’m kind of disappointed that they added only negative emotions, leaving Joy as the only positive one. I didn’t like this about the first movie either and now it looks like they’re keeping that same idea 😐 I was hoping things like love, kindness, loyalty, passion, or bravery could be added, and many other positive emotions but nope. Everything just HAS to be negative I guess. Ok then. I do not have high hopes for this movie but I’ll probably still check it out despite my disappointment

I don't know if I would call anxiety an emotion. I mean, it can be interpreted differently by everyone. Anxiety is a form of fear but can be expressed depending on the person in different was. Just the way I feel anxiety is more of a constant fear, almost like the current fear character in inside out is a good representation.

These four new emotion seems to me that they won't be a big thing to riley at the end of the sequel, and i feel like that at the end of the sequel that the new 4 emotion might be not around at the ending and the main 5 emotions will remain just like the mom and dad only having 5 emotion as their main emotion (I'm not saying that the 4 emotion will disappear but they will be in the sidelines at the ending of the sequel, that's my theory) EDIT: apparently there's five new emotions
