Amazing! I’ve been snowboarding many times on Tuckerman Ravine, it is by far the most insane weather I’ve ever seen. The only time weather has ever legitimately scared me. We hope to hike the summit soon!

I have been going to the summit of Mount Washington for 40+ years now and was up there just this past Columbus Day weekend (2014)! I seen the New Museum and in my opinion it is truly awesome, although I do miss some of the old exhibits, encased in glass but the new and partially interactive Museum upgrade is a sight to see! When my wife was still alive we camped along the Kancamangus Highway at Jigger Johnson Campground and made a point of visiting the summit several times each year! It is truly an amazing place to visit and each trip is different and memorable! The Auto Road and Summit never gets old, each trip is an experience and one I try to introduce to as many people I can! We climbed the Auto Road in the mid 70's on a "Chopper" M-C, 83 degrees at the bottom and 36 degrees at the summit. We've climbed the Auto Road using everything from that old Chopper, a High Ride Blazer to a New Corvette, each trip was an experience I can and will never forget! I would like to Thank the people that make our visits possible and the people that actually live and work up there! I have been a member for as long as I can remember, only missing a few years in the last 40+ years of visits! I have always wanted the pleasure of spending an evening up there, this is one of the most amazing places I have been and will continue to visit every year as long as I am still vertical! Thank you again to everyone that makes visiting the Mount Washington Summit possible for so many people! :-) Roland Member # 41314

Yeah, there are a lot of commercial aspects to mount washington now. However; it's a research facility, research facilities take money to operate, and this one is on top of a mountain, so expenses are that much more extreme. The money isn't going to come from thin air, with this route, more people can more easily appreciate the mountain through the observatory's outreach, and the facility can continue operations.

You can drive right to the top, they rip you off, but nice if you have no desire to climb it.

I have some pretty funny pictures of my grandfather up there...severely underdressed, let's say, and having a blast. Billy Neptune is a character. He helped with the bunk project which can also be seen on the Observatory's channel. 😂

I soooo want to do a Winter hike to the top of The Rock Pile. I want to know what it's like not have to hike 3-4 hours up just to stand in line for 45 for the picture at the summit sign. One of these days I will remember to stop by the gift shop and get my "this body climbed mt. washington" t-shirt.

You should get an Oculus Rift at your museum. If you want immersion then an Oculus is the perfect solution. Like play a video of the Mountain winds in the Oculus and they'll be able to immerse they're selves into it.

I get the sentiment, Zorbawon, but Mt. Washington and the summit have been "commercial" for well over a hundred years. Certainly since the cog started hauling waddlers to the top ;-) If you want (relatively) unspoiled in the area, head for the Bonds, or Owl's Head, or any of the other peaks/trails in the Whites. There's lots of opportunity. Washington's summit is what it is and they deserve to raise funds for the good work they do.

If the toughest part of the precip collection is keeping the can upright, why not make it easy on yourself: put a lid on it? like a snap-in-place lid so that no precip is lost due to stumbles and no additional precip is added after the swap point. Seems to me like that would be more scientifically accurate.

If sharing the information they gather with anyone and everyone that desires to know (to support their efforts) is "commercialisation".... than so be it! Our population, modes of transportation, and curiosity has grown exponentially allowing people from all over the world to visit the Mount so why not provide the information to make the visit a memorable one? If you think it's commercialised...then don't go!

It can be, definitely bring winter gear even in July. I've had a snowball fight in July, when the base was 75 and sunny. It's ridiculous No joke about bring winter gear if hiking though, weather changes in a matter of minutes, it's easily lethal if you arent prepared. Don't even bother trying it in deep winter. It's November 30 today and it has already had almost six feet of snow

It's probably debatable, but it might be the windiest place on earth in the winter. It doesn't get much worse than winds over 100 mph and cold weather.

In 1956 I went there in Dec. At the observatory I seen snow flakes in the winter between 2 piece of glass, then in I microscope I learned no two snow flakes are alike, they are all different, how can people say they is no god
@Zorbawon
@Zorbawon 11 жыл бұрын
How can they say this is the worlds worst weather? Yes, it may have the highest "recorded" winds but now this has become a commercialized enterprise. No longer is it the natural beauty of the past but instead a money grabbing commercial event. I have contributed to this and have stayed at the observatory but I came away feeling very sad at what the Mt. Washington Observatory has become. I will no longer be part of it.
