Just picked one of these up a couple of days ago. I absolutely love the tones I can get out of this thing. Also worth noting that this bass has rollover edges on the neck, which makes it incredibly comfortable to play. My only real gripe with the bass is that it's a bit heavier than I'd like, but other than that, it's easily my favorite bass I've ever had.

@@cliffords2315 I actually ended up getting a wide, padded neoprene strap, and it worked wonders. I can barely feel it anymore. All of that being said, after the honeymoon period has worn off, it's still a great bass, but it definitely had some QC warts pop up.

really great video. the last two sections regarding the pickups was really helpful. focused commentary about what we're hearing, but not too much gabbing, is great.

I just ordered one of these in Olympic White, with a Pau Ferro fingerboard and tortoise shell pick guard. Very excited to receive it, and me finding this video was great timing 👍🏼

You are awesome thank you man! Bummer about the bass treble controls not working in passive mode

Super informative video, thanks a lot! This bass really seems to be worth it. I'm not a jazz bass person either (I'm with Cory about the lack of 'roundness'), so I wouldn't really need the jazz pickup there but it in the end having it there is a nice bonus, I think.

My only experience with an active P/J bass is an $200 Ibanez GSR200. My biggest gripe about that one is that the battery cover is held on with screws, so if it goes out at a gig it can’t be replaced. These fender active models seem to all have a battery cover with a plastic tab, much like the stingrays. I prefer this style battery cover for gigging purposes and quick changes. Also, the tones from this bass are probably far better, seeing as I much prefer an active circuit with an EQ than one with a useless boomy sounding bass boost feature. Also, in the case of having multiple bass players swapping out on the same amp at a gig (I had this issue at a school of rock rehearsal in the past) my Ibanez was always loud/overpowering compared to everyone else’s passive basses (An Epiphone t-bird, white Jackson Js2 concert bass, and a black Squier P-bass on that gig) and my Ibanez always had to be turned down by the sound engineer! Would every active bass have this issue?

There are so many pentatonic scales, for every root a minor and major one and everybody is demoing with E min Pentatonic. :D

Is that white noise we hear when you’re speaking coming from the active circuit of the bass? Big thumbs up: The bridge pickup with bass up is what I wanted to hear! Thank you for that!

Thank you very much for the review. I would love to get one, but unfortunately Fender is not so into lefties. 😩 Perhaps sooner than later.
@MooreMusicGuitars2 жыл бұрын
None of the manufacturers support lefties as they should, but we generally have some left-handed Fender guitars and basses in the shop. If there's a model in particular you'd like, let us know. We can get it for you.

What do y’all think about the Pau Ferro fretboard? I ordered one of these but may switch to the jazz.

There seems to be a lot of background hiss in the audio for this video. Is that coming from the bass?

That pau ferro fingerboard looks like rosewood. My player p bass fingerboard so light pau ferro. It doesn’t look nice. Probably Fender gave the most beautiful pau ferro fingerboard bass for the review.

you can use an absorbant wood oil to get a deeper darker finish if you ahve the light pau, check online there are people that do this.; There are even dark staining oils. I found it "Old English Scratch Cover Oil" it doesnt cost very much and easy to use, you probably should tape off the neck, i dont think it will stain the clear finich on the neck but just to be careful, I saw what a Fender Tele looked like after using it, and it was very dark and nice.

Make it a 5 string and your set for pretty much any gig.
