Hey everyone! I've been getting a lot of questions about crossbows lately as well as requests to do a new crossbow video. This is one of my favorite styles of crossbow to make as it has a very simple trigger, called a pin or Skane lock. Like my last crossbow video, this is a nice light crossbow at 100 pounds, great for having fun and shooting at targets.
I've been working on crossbows lately, so if you want to see a build-along of a similar crossbow with the same features, let me know in the comments! Also let me know if I should do a build along of a pistol crossbow as well.
Thanks for watching and enjoy!

You are a mechanical genius, Nick. Designing complex things is easy, but simplicity takes a lot of thought. If I had seen this video when I was a kid, there would have been holes in anything that didn't move, and some that did. LOL I'd love to se a video on building that crossbow.

+BackyardBowyer Has anyone ever tried heating a 1/2" sch 40 pvc and and 1 " sch 40 pvc. slide the 1/2 " into the 1 " after heating both. then putting the taper in with jig set up? Never mind I did it.. wound up with 165 # draw weight compound bow.

Very nice, @BackyardBowyer! I make medieval crossbows, and a Skane like yours, too. Differences being, I use an aluminum prod, and I inlay the stringslot with bone, to reduce string wear. While I have made swiveling safeties for the roller lock bows, I have NOT for my Skanes, and I see now, I really should, and thank you. I am very curious as to how you bend the pvc, it looks really neat and well done! Ok, just checked your other vids, and there is a tutorial! Thanks again, it is a pleasure to watch your videos! I've subscribed, so, I can learn more.

I've missed your videos over the last 3 months or so and was beginning to worry... then you upload 3 videos in as many days. Everyone needs a break, but it's good to see you back. I love watching your uploads. They're an invaluable resource and I've learnt a lot from them. So, yes, please upload a build-along for this, as by documenting how your knowledge, understanding and skill evolves and grows, you allow others to learn from and journey with you.

Thanks for your videos mate. You are an excellent craftsman with modern products. I have watched your string of videos on making it, twice threw, in the last 2 days (as I am not the kinda bloke, who wants to store recipes in my head or on paper, I am absorbing your proportions, the objects technical attributes and your attitude regarding reasons for design) as I want to absorb some of your skill and make a couple of them, exactly following your instructions and measurements, when I have a garage. A thing for me is that I live in a metric world, I can do conversions in my head for feet and inches, instantly, but I am sure they do not contain the accuracy needed for me to replicate your crossbow, using my brainsac, alone. I am amazed by the rigidity of the PVC Prong and it's ability to retain a 100pnd thrust, over and over again, even after it has been reformed outside of it's original cylindrical form. My head is racing with an idea, which came from one of your other videos, I suspect it is something you have already thought of., and I am aware that it is a concept which starts to push the boundaries regarding wear and tear on a Medieval crossbow, firing mechanism. but I want to tell you what it is. I will post my idea as a comment below, as I feel this piece of writing is too long now, and I want the reader to draw a breath.

Dominic Earley Placing 2 thin, (like a section of fishing rod) fiberglass rods inside the 35mm underground electrical conduit (prong), before you heat and shape it. You could put a spacer in the center, keeping them at the sides (in the head) and at the tips of the prong, the rods have been adhered to a thin sheet of steel, using Araldite, measured and placed accurately, to make sure they do not impinge upon the structural integrity of the pvc prong, before you shape it. The steel sheet may need some holes drilled into it, so that It can bond in a permanent way with the PVC, at the tips. If you can force a smaller than 3 inch deflection, into the prong, holding it, until it cools (while the fiberglass rods are fighting against you) it could be that you have a prong, with 150pnd power and no problems with internal parts, rattle-ling around. The Prong can't look as curved once it is roped in and my idea may require a longer prong, but you may be able to create a crossbow with your pvc good looks/weather resistance and ease of manufacture, with 1 added feature, let me work on a prong for you my man, lol.
