I toatly agree if introducing was that easy when we introduced a kitten to cat my cat nearly killed my kitten but the did become good friends but my cat sadly died and I think my kitten was quite sad because she didn't play and I think she was a bit lonley so we are going to get another k kitten yay

@@danielaC8001 go see Jackson Galaxy’s video about introducing kittens to oldest cats. This video shows a very easy introduction but that’s not usually how it works. You need to keep cats in separate rooms without eye contact for a while, it can take up to months before they’re used to each other

Wow, your cat handle it much better than mine when I introduced her to my kitten. She gave him quite a few smacks and hisses before even considering being friends.

Dylan hi! I’m currently having the same issue with mine! She’s being so mean and sassy like the new kitten just wants to be friends but just so scared of my big cats attitude. The hissing, growling and smacks through the doors are scary. How long did it take you?

@@jessodonoghue1168 Hi Jess, sorry I'm not seeing this till right now. I had no idea my comment go so many thumbs up! I paid close attention to my older cat when she was around the kitten and began noticing when she would "smack" my kitten, there were no claws out or anything. I also paid attention to the kitten, and he seemed to not be too afraid. He would just fall on his back and sorta surrender lol. I sorta deduced this whole situation as the older cat asserting her dominance and letting the younger one know who is boss. I would say steadily, day by day, the aggression decreased and it just sorta turned into a "I don't like you" situation. Over-time they started to get closer, friendlier, etc. and now they're best buddies! So I would say all in all it probably took about 6 weeks for them to get along. To anyone else reading this, I'd say just hang in there and make sure to keep an eye on what type of aggression your older cat is exhibiting. I think generally this is a natural process that the two cats have to work out themselves. Oh, and be sure to give you older cat lots and lots of love so that it doesn't get jealous.

I am so glad this introduction worked out well, your cat is amazingly tolerant! Please keep in mind to anyone considering getting a kitten/another cat that introductions RARELY go this well right off the bat. Follow Jackson Galaxy's cat introduction advice and keep the cats separate and slowly introduce them through feeding through the door, scents, site swapping, etc. Don't be surprised if your cat takes weeks or months to accept the newcomer!

Facts my cat took a whole 12 months before she got to the point of tolerating the new cat and that was with two months of work getting them introduced. They do not fight, but they also don't cuddle, just tolerate one another and stay out of each other's way.

I have never had cats get a long so quickly. There are usually a lot of attack noises for quite a while. Piper may not be cuddly, but he seems like a really cooled out cat. Pipper is a magnificent cat. You have no idea, the threatening noises than can go on before they get used to each other.

I wonder why Piper accepted him as quick. At the end, you'd said Piper was about 8mths old, so maybe she has a strong first hand memory of being in a shelter, and the difference to her life since being adopted. It's not that far in the past for her. She understands it's saving another cat, and that it's not about replacing her. I wonder if she'd been the only cat in the household, of many years, it's HER household. All of her memories are of her owning her household. Kinda like adding Theo into the mix while they're flexible.

We adopted a new kitten (Mick) on Thursday before the Labor Day weekend. As of Labor Day Monday, he and our resident female cat (Kenzie, 11 months old) were playing and chasing each other. Kenzie did a lot of growling and hissing for the first couple of days, but after that she accepted Mick. We just followed an adapted routine of feeding and playing together while we were present. That seemed to work pretty well for us.

Piper was more than ready for a roommate! I’ve had similar adoptions….a young kitten is usually welcomed by other cats…they know it’s a baby:-) I hope they are still friends.

Glad it worked out well for you! Only had my kitten for 3 months now and he's only 5 months old. Already considering a new one. Didn't have any problem introducing him to my friend's 2 adult cats so I'm wondering if this method mostly applies to single cat homes

That went very well, my 10 month old tabby is being a very curious and good girl through the 5’x5’x16” coated wire pen I built so we will see how physical introductions go later this evening or tomorrow. Fingers crossed I have a fraction of the success you had with them. Good luck to us all! PS I got the second kitten for the same reason. I play and try to keep her active and engaged but she is a lit firecracker when she isn’t cuddling or sleeping so what’s the expert suggested fix, get another firecracker for them to play with.🧨🧨

Brooke Nagel i would strongly recommend reconsidering the spray bottle. i’m no good at explaining it so i strongly recommend watching jackson galaxy’s video on spray bottle training!

@@hannahpettigrew3421 while i havent seen jackson's video, I would say that the cat doesnt associate getting sprayed with being on the counter, they associate it with you. Also if they are getting on the counter a lot that probably means theres not much else for them to go. they like being up high, so in jacksons terms "catify" your home, with cat friendly climbing spaces. or get used to them being on the counter, theyre cats they do that lol

i got a kitten on nov 15 and her name was muffin but we changed it to.Noelle Hazel but we just call her Noelle and her and your kitten look alike and around to same age and as i watched this she saw him and just reached for my phone like she had found love it was so cute

Please watch Jackson Galaxy on how to introduce cats and about cat behaviors👍🏻 I do that when I have issues with my cat, now we're introducing our kitty to our 2yr old cat 👍🏻 dont play with your hands to much, we made that mistake lol

@@emilyknowles9604 Hello Emily ...Well, its good thing I adore baby George to pieces because my 3 year old feline, Miss Penny ...no so much hahaha. She lets him chase her but she hisses at him most of the time. She does share her food and lets him use her cat box so there is hope. I think maybe he`s so small and i hope that once hes bigger she might warm up. thanks for checking in. and thank you for your video

Why you want to wait a week is not just for them to get used to the smell and sounds of the other cat but to make sure that the new kitten/cat is not sick. They could seem fine and then turn up sick a few days later. And you don't want to get your other cat sick too. So you should have done a week or two.

my cat literally brought a stray kitten home, encouraged her to come inside, and has the gall to play too rough. She tries to bite his neck and he just body slams her. And then five seconds later they'll be grooming each other. I need a piper fr, your cats are so adorable & it's amazing to see how much you care for them.

Anyway, I think a few days of transition is fine. My cat and the kitten still fought every day for the two weeks the kitten was here, but it got less every day. I only had to separate them a couple of times over the last week. I had them eating at the same time in the first 24 hours and I could leave them alone together after a couple more days.

My parents are letting me adopt a new Kitten this month for my 17th birthday because I’ve wanted a friend for my 2 year old (she will be 3 in June 28th) cat Zuri. Zuri has a “boyfriend” who is another cat in the neighborhood so she definitely wants a friend. (She’s spayed). So now I’m beige watching these videos to see how I should introduce them. Zuri loves other cats, I just haven’t had to introduce them before!

This is awesome, we are getting a second cat for the same reason! Our 8 month old is crazy and just wants to play all day. He gets along with our dogs, so I’m hoping he likes a new kitty as easily as your Piper did

If anyone has any tips or suggestions I will be very grateful. So first we tried with the swap in the blankets with their scent on it, and then we let the kitten explore the house and tried to get our cat to go into the room that we keep the kitten in. Our cat did not want to go in the room at all. So we tried feeding them On opposite sides of the door but as our cat heard the kitten she ran away and would not eat. Then we tried it again and she ate the food and only got scared once. Next we tried to feed them again with a glass door in between them so they could see each other but our cat didn’t like it and she hissed and growled. The next thing we are going to try is having the kitten in a crate and let our cat come up and investigated herself. Is this the proper steps we should be taking or dose anyone else have an ideas of what we should try next?

this is really late and I’m no cat expert but you should try taking things slower :o your cat seems to need ,ore time to adjust and that’s perfectly fine!

They hardly do anymore! We eventually had to use a spray bottle with water to deter them when all other efforts like pet spray or double sided tape wouldn't do the trick and the water bottle worked like a charm and didn't scare them away from water at all. They still try to jump into the shower lol
