Breguet has longstanding unique links to aviation. Its most iconic pilot watch, the Type XX and the Type 20 (there's indeed a difference, between civilian vs. military models) needs little introduction.
In the early fifties, the French Ministry of Defense drew up specifications with a view to purchasing chronograph wristwatches for its Air Force, to be known as Type 20watch. Drawing on its experience in the field, Breguet expressed its interest and designed a model that was quickly approved by the authorities before entering the legend… The Breguet Type 20 was introduced as a pilot's watch equipped with a flyback chronograph. (the retour en vol function), a pear-shaped crown, a two-counter display and a fluted bezel with a triangular marker. Several models went on, with the launch of the Breguet Type XX models made for civilian use, often with 3-counter display and a bi-directional rotating bezel with 12-hour scale. In the 1990s, the watch came back with the Type XX 3800st, a modernized edition that has been produced for over 2 decades. Some 70 years after its creation, Breguet launches a new version of this pilot chronograph. This modern take on this watchmaking icon comes in two versions celebrating the military heritage of the model and its civilian history. And there is more: Breguet also designed a new, high-end chronograph movement to power this new Type XX and new Type 20.
We are meeting with Lionel A Marca, the brand’s CEO and Claudio Cavaliere, Head of Breguet's product management team, to learn more about the 2023 Breguet Type 20 Chronograph 2057 and the Breguet Type XX Chronograph 2067.

It’s like a car crash, I can’t look away or stop watching this video. I really like that they kept the left side of the dial clean, and didn’t cut off any numerals in order to showcase how the chopped up numerals on the right side of dial were indeed on purpose. Brilliant.

Thanks for being so quick on a review of these. I was really looking forward for an heritage release of the type xx but I just can’t believe they used a snap-on back instead of a screw down. How this made it into production is beyond me. The Airain Type xx wins hands down… even the Mathey Tissot x Massena Lab did it better.

In my opinion, the date wheel should be excluded. The lume colors are not good choices either.

Congratulations on the scoop! In film these are starting to come alive. Still not entirely convinced of the size or date, but will get on wrist and decide.

Great new movement. Don’t like the date window though, especially it’s position. And 42mm is rather large nowadays, considering the move to smaller watches and the fact that the original timepieces these are based on were a great 38mm in diameter. I like the brushed finish on the movement though…classy yet modern. Very much like Swatch group’s other house-brand…Blancpain’s movements used on their 50 Fathoms range. Even if I don’t think the finish here overall is up to the standards of those. The anglage for instance, looks flat and machined, rather than hand-finished and curved like on the 50 Fathoms.

I don't know how to feel about this one. The 3800s were so near and dear to me. Unfortunately I didn't have the means to buy one when they were in production. Now that I do, I don't like the way the new ones turned out. Too big, lost the character of the old one. Just update the movement, bracelet and clasp. That's all you needed to do. I guess I'll just pick up a used 3820st on the grey market

To be frank, I'm not a huge fan of the retro optics. But I understand vintage is in, so there we go. What is awesome is the new movement however - finally a modern movement to go with this watch collection. Now make a XXI version with central minute with the new movement and that one would be great! Unfortunately, for me not attainable anytime soon. But as a second hand one day, one can hope! Or maybe a thick Breguet XXII as an offwork watch

The Breguet type XX is undeniably beautiful! However, it seems like Breguet is out of touch with the market. The case size is just too large, and the price is ridiculously inviting to the gray market. As someone who appreciates the brand's rich legacy and owns Breguet watches, it's disheartening to see them struggle with product design and marketing. It's particularly surprising since they're part of the Swatch Group, a renowned company. Hopefully, Breguet can realign its approach soon and regain its footing in the industry

These guys are completely asleep at the wheel. Absolutely ZERO clue how a contemporary type XX should be made. They get given one of the most beautiful designs of the century and completely butcher the execution. WHY does there need to be a date? And if you are deciding (for God knows what reason) that there HAS to be a date, why cram it at 4:30 the way they did. Ugly Fauxtina lume. Snap on caseback. Blackened Rotor (why, seriously) and then not to mention the size. It's a total mess and these guys should be fired on the spot tbh.
