Markforged announces a breakthrough technology for metal 3D printing. Based on our 4th generation composite 3D printing technology, the Metal X is a brand new kind of metal 3D printer. By printing metal powder bound in a plastic matrix, we've eliminated the safety risks associated with traditional metal 3D printing while enabling new features like closed-cell infill for reduced part weight and cost.
The Metal X is up to 10x less expensive than alternative metal additive manufacturing technologies - and up to a 100x less than traditional fabrication technologies like machining or casting. Our cloud-based 3D printer management software, built-in touchscreen interface, and automatic material tracking make the Metal X system the simplest way to manufacture metal parts.
Learn more about the Metal X: bit.ly/3GJ3oLm
The Markforged Metal X system offers some of the most groundbreaking materials in 3D printing, including 17-4 PH Stainless Steel, A2 Tool Steel, D2 Tool Steel, H13 Tool Steel, and Inconel 625.

What a cool approach. You can also achieve a similar result by printing with a metal infused clay and sintering it in a kiln.

The printed parts are only prototype worthy or can these parts be used as full production parts? Can an aluminum printed part from one of these be compared to like a CNC machined aluminum part?
@harrelsontrumpets

Yes, these parts can be used for full production in many cases. And yes, aluminum will be an option.

Hey guys, can you explain where is the value of your printer, and why does it cost $100,000? You are printing in metal infused plastic filament and then kiln sinthering it, that is possible with a $1000 desktop printer (lookup a product called filamet). Where is your added value? Also, why is that printer so big? Thanks, and best of luck.

@leonardbrkanac9150 7 жыл бұрын
Shachar Weis well most other metal printers cost over 500000 dollars so that's where the value comes from. and no one's done it yet so they want to make sure they can profit.

"if you can afford a half million to a million buy one, for the rest of the world, this is for you" But.... its a $100k... that's cheaper, I guess but I don;t think you can properly say the "rest of the world" is your target market. even medium sized businesses, $5k is already kind of pricey. could just as well achieve the same with casting from a regular 3d print or printing a mold for wax reproductions and casting from those.
@harrelsontrumpets
@harrelsontrumpets 7 жыл бұрын
A "medium" sized business has over 140 employees and can easily afford a $100k printer in most cases. Casting is a laborious process that is easily 10 times more expensive per part than using the Metal X.

Sorry, but people who can afford 100k on a printer most likely will buy the ones for 500k because they are much better. If we were talking 5k for that printer then maybe but 100k? LOL
@harrelsontrumpets
@harrelsontrumpets 7 жыл бұрын
$100k seems very fair. Would you pay $100 for a nice meal to celebrate your anniversary? Or is $20 your limit?
@hankscorpio1953
@hankscorpio1953 6 жыл бұрын
but wait, there's more haha you'll need a washing bath and sintering station (furnace) also along with the printer. However, the metal infill is quite an advantage over traditional laser sintering which would fill the part with powder (more cost) and the bed size is quite generous, material costs when sintering large parts can be enormous so these parts can be made cheaper. It's just a new type of metal addative manufacturing, so it's going to be expensive for a while. Remember how much desktop 3d printers used to be?
