Same. I use WhatsApp for private chats for family, we don't like social media and we don't care about celebs, this feature is an eyesore and we have NO use for it. I want it gone.

I will never understand. Why don't the people behind these new features dont create a option for us to turn this off or permanently disable or delate the feature. All thes social media sites are serving the same purpose. Literally. Which is why i olny have WhatsApp. Soon enough whatsaop will have become as similar to all these other social media sites.

You can delete your status up date by clicking on people who viewed your status then click on 3 dots on the left . It has changed from the previous way of deleting

The only thing - It seems Telegram will not share or expose your information to secret services. But Facebook owns Whatsapp now, and secret services must be in the mix.
