_____
This serves as an introduction to the life of Saint Teresa of Ávila, also called Saint Teresa of Jesus, baptized as Teresa Sánchez de Cepeda y Ahumada (28 March 1515 - 4 October 1582). In our opening conversation, we discuss 16th century Spain, events taking place in the world and the people who associated with Teresa. Dr. Lilles also gives introductions to her various spiritual works and the importance of “The Interior Castle”.
_____
Anthony Lilles, S.T.D. is an associate professor and the academic dean of Saint John’s Seminary in Camarillo as well as the academic advisor for Juan Diego House of Priestly Formation for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. For over twenty years he served the Church in Northern Colorado where he joined and eventually served as dean of the founding faculty of Saint John Vianney Theological Seminary in Denver. Through the years, clergy, seminarians, religious and lay faithful have benefited from his lectures and retreat conferences on the Carmelite Doctors of the Church and the writings of St. Elisabeth of the Trinity.

I've been praying like this for years and felt an overwhelming guilt as if I had to actually speak out verbally with our Lord. Then it dawned on me that people who were deaf mute would be praying like this. I realised i felt more into praying like this, but still had scruples about it a sort of guilt.because I felt my prayers were meaningless, because I would pray this way during my work, going walks, in the car,on the bus,out shopping etc.. I felt i was drawn through guilt to visit Jesus more and more in adoration of the blessed sacrament. Sometimes I felt that I had to pray my daily devotions out loud in order to get rid of the guilt, goodness gracious it was very draining to have to repeat my St Bridgette prayer, rosary novena's litanies and chaplets etc . I use to love reading, but due to mental illness and chronic anxiety I lost that desire,of being engrossed in a book and being part of the story, strangely enough I imagined that I was right there whatever I read. I hate the fact that I cannot retain or remember anything that I read, which I find so upsetting, because I would love to teach my younger relatives and friends kids, like a kind of baby sitting storytime I'm going through spiritual dryness and feel I need to be at the blessed sacrament daily for at least three hours a day. I think I'm drawn into a deeper relationship with Jesus to calm my mind and hopefully be able to be blessed with enough knowledge to understanding and remember what God wants to use me for. Please pray for my journey with Jesus through Mary to be fulfilled to do the will of God and that I desire what he desires from my life heart etc.. I really am nothing, uneducated.clumsy and don't really know how to explain situations without getting myself in a muddle. I feel lost alone empty and void of love, although I know I must endure this journey as penance to save souls in some way,or maybe just to save my own wretched soul. Lord in your mercy grant me the desire of surrendering my will completely over to you 🙏

So helpful to know how St. Theresa had to deal with the people and powers who fought against God. Gives insight into our God and how muchHe loves us and who can relate to us if we let go of fear and learn how wonderfully we are made!

Despite years of mental prayer, I am still trying to grasp its depth, meaning and impact. Perhaps I have been missing the whole point - thanks for the gentle discussion to let me see the bigger picture.

"The Lord" VS "Our Lord" there is a difference and I cringe and my heart aches when I hear people say the wrong one. Do some research into what I am talking about and it will catapult your contemplative life if you choose the correct one. There is so much more that is being hidden from us and proper contemplation will lead us to those hidden gems... Peace.
