Very good and step by step specially in the first half video explanation. Ive notices you havent uploaded the video of H17 UV unwraping new features. Would be awesome if you could make an in depth tutorial. You are contributing a lot know that!

There's a UV Pelt on the tool shelf in H17 but can't find node using TAB > uvpelt. Not on the list anymore.
@GoingProcedural5 жыл бұрын
As of Houdini 17 UV Pelt has been more or less replaced by the new UV Flatten 2.0. But it can still be accessed from the Texture shelf for now. I will probably be making a new UVs video sometime in the future to go over the new UV features in Houdini 17, in particular, UV Autoseam, UV Flatten 2.0, and UV Layout 2.0. All of which are phenomenal improvements to the previous workflow.

No worries, looking forward to it Ben. I've made the barrel HDA as well, awesome job on those videos too. I'm having issues with texturing it as I don't have Substance Painter so can't use it to make textures. I've uv unpacked it and everything, just can't work out how to apply materials to it in 17. I use blender a fair bit so I'm familiar with node system for materials & I have heaps of texture images which I'd like to learn how to use in Houdini as well as procedural materials. Anyway, thanks for making these videos Ben. I've noticed the support for 17 is not up-to-date, which unfortunately seems to be the trend these days. Thanks again.

Hi, I did the steps but the UV is not showing on the box. (grayed grids with letters) used UV unwrap and UV quick shade node And how to tell if your imported free obj statue in houdini has UV or not? Thanks!

Why are the UVs mirror imaged on the side facing the up vector? Do we need to flip the normals?
@PaulBoland3 жыл бұрын
Does Houdini only offer UV texturing? In previous 3D software packages I have used, you can do quick and easy texturing by selecting some polygons, naming them, and then applying a texture to the named surface, selecting either planar, cubic, cylindrical, or spherical mapping. This applies the texture to that named surface in the way selected. It's quick and easy. UV mapping is very time consuming as you create the UV and then have to spend time lining up the polygons with with the UV map texture image. UV mapping definitely has its place, but when you're just looking texture models quickly and still get good results without needing to perfectly align each polygon to each part of a texture, then UV mapping is slow and time consuming.

Great Tutorial ! Although, it would've been nice if you could give more explanations for some procedures you do. For example there a nodes you use that you don't give any explanations of what their purpose is, teh blast node for example, or you use some shortcuts that it would've been nice to know! But I'm not hating, it's still a great tutorial and I learned a lot from it !

How did you view both the screens at once? I couldn't figure it out
@GoingProcedural6 жыл бұрын
Howdy mjapanwala! You can split a window vertically by hovering over it with the cursor and pressing Alt + [. Alternatively you can press Alt + ] to split a window horizontally. You can close any window you have open, by simply hitting the little x in the tab label, or by hovering over the window and pressing Alt + /.

Oh man. Thanks for the tutorial. Why on earth Houdini made uv editing such a headache is beyond me. I have to do most of the uv stuff in blender and then export the finished product over to Houdini. Bummer.
@kpbendeguz4 жыл бұрын
Because Houdini is procedural. It is easy to move around UVs if your model and topology is fixed, however you don't wanna fix UVs manually every time you change a parameter on a procedural model.
@schmoborama3 жыл бұрын
omg that's the most complicated way to uv a road that I've ever seen - other apps you just 'morph' the road straight, do the uv / texture work, then turn off the morph. Hopefully that would work in Houdini too? I'd hate to have to leave Houdini to uv stuff.

The amazing thing is that Houdini developers very often make strange and stupid flaws. How could they make so many different projection options and not make a square projection of the texture? : ----)) They made a lot of useless projections - there is a spherical projection, a cylindrical and even a torus, but there is no square projection! :) a cube is the basis of the basics, but apparently it’s not for Houdini developers))
