Introduction to Measles: Causes, Risk Factors, Transmission, Stages of Infection, Signs & Symptoms.
**ERRATA in this video**
1) I state that measles virus is a "positive-sense" single-stranded RNA virus, but IT IS ACTUALLY NEGATIVE-SENSE. Sorry for the confusion.
Measles is a very contagious, viral infection that causes characteristic symptoms and a characteristic rash. Measles is highly transmittable, and can be spread via multiple mechanisms. In this lesson, we discuss the Measles virus, risk factors for getting infected by Measles (ex. vitamin A deficiency), how the virus is transmitted and how it infects our bodies, stages of infection, signs & symptoms and two atypical clinical presentations of measles. This is Lesson 1 of a Two-Part Lesson Series on measles. In the next lesson, we discuss the many complications (including some fatal complications) of a measles infection, along with methods to diagnose measles, possible treatments and how we prevent becoming infected with measles in the first place.

I left that a year ago and believe me the fallout was rough but slowly scraping back my life. Demonic is spot on. His parents were Christian and when we said grace at theirs he would keep his eyes open and silently laugh. Pure evil. You described everything I experienced so thank you. It’s taking time to find myself again but videos like this guide me forward. ❤

I took about 40 days for a ship to sail from San Francisco to Hawaii and I'm wondering how measles could have made the voyage undetected? It killed hundreds of thousands of Hawaiians.
@aidenpeleg2789
@aidenpeleg2789 4 ай бұрын
There's a couple of reasons. The main one is that measles is an endemic disease - this means that the people who travelled from San Francisco to Hawaii had already lived their entire lives being intermittently exposed to measles or viruses like measles. It could still cause disease (and killed many) but many adults had also acquired a degree of immunity. Meanwhile, the native populations of Hawaii had never been exposed to measles or related viruses, which allowed the virus to spread without any resistance and cause particularly severe disease. Back then, people didn't understand immunity very well. It is possible they were aware a few people fell ill on the ship, but they could not have predicted how devastating what they saw as a common illness would be to the Hawaiians.

You cannot, in fact, guarantee me that, because measles has been endemic to Europe for the entirety of its several hundred years of natural history.
