I’ve been listening to this chant every other day for only a few days, and everything Thay said, I felt. I thought my mind was wondering, but even in spirit it seems like I understood the grief and suffering and compassion that was causing me to cry every time I hummed along. I am so immensely grateful that I am alive in a time to hear Thich Nhat Hanh’s dharma talks on KZfaq. He truly is a gift to this world,, as we all are in our own way. Thank you for posting!🙏🏾💗

Love this teaching video and it explains the powerful effect of this chant and the energy generated by the sangha. I felt this in Trafalgar Square in London 31st March 2012. It was so powerful and overwhelming, tears ran down my cheeks. Such a life changing day in many ways. The man that sat behind me at this Sit for Peace is now my husband ❤️

Thank you so much 🙏 I've been listening to the podcast on Spotify and this is my first time hearing a direct teaching of Tay. I immediately went into tears when the chant started. Internally I said to myself, "I release my dohka and in its place, I put compassion and understanding". I feel much lighter. Thank you so much 🙏 I really needed this. 🙏

🙏🏻🌸 As a new child, open fully to the mercy of my mother. As she gave me the fist milk of life. I was then the most open and sensitive. Having come from within , fully sheltered. I still must have suffered something. In order to experience relief. Now after having fathered . My tender care has been many times over that which my father mustered before me . As his was over what he lived under in reception . On so on snd so on back to the original sequence of life and not life as we know it. And their too was suffering . As the wish forward for serving comfort above what was understood and received. Beckoned to also Mother the others under me in arriving. If you handle s clean fresh tissue in kind with the handling the tissue is tattered. This is the material reality we suffer. Like damed if you do as well as damed if you don’t. And above all that. Like a magic wand one can always create it’s own definition of experience and its being affected by its thoughts of convictions. It all looks the same drawn back far enough to see. The interpretation is the suffering. From outer space it appears . I walk , I sit , I eat , I dance, I bend over and pick something up and put it some where else. I write , I build, I disassemble. It always looks the same . Yet the interpretations are endless and I am free to have them anyway I do. It’s the non doing-ness I do to myself that suffering ails for relief. At my last breath I might savor to the highest of joy a time I stepped in fresh manure barefooted .🙏🏻🌸bless always Rudy

The sound of chanting by the men Buddhist are a lot more calming. The women sound like they are shouting and it causes tension in my body. Beautiful chant makes one sad.
@jashpalchahal4240Ай бұрын
I believe that's the intended effect. The chant's meant to make one feel sad so one can feel their own sadness and feel/understand/contemplate the sadness /suffering of others. That by definition is empathy and compassion. That's just my opinion. I agree with you when you write the chant is beautiful. It's very touching. It's very beautiful indeed.

Dear Adrián, thanks for watching the video. There is a Q&A clip called "Why does Thay make finger movements during the Avalokiteshvara chant?" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o7aTkr1lvKupo2Q.html which may answer your question. 🙏

His hand movements are mudras, often great beings spontaneously do mudras, of compassion, benevolence. If you've ever seen Quan Yin her hands are in abundance mudras, like Sri Lakshmi

Because they are monastics, and they shave their heads. They are probably wearing head coverings because it's cold outside.

My mom said it's supposed to humbly be unisex without distraction. Mike used to all shave their heads. I think scarves so they don't need to shave their heads. But Catholics and Jews are also known to cover their heads before God in church or temple
