Informative I found widening the exhaust port on the inside and ramping the piston plus I took 1mm off the intake side of the piston kept bottom end power and increased top end drastically

So I did all this to my g23 and wow huge power gain. plus the exhaust port was gummed up so it was like half the size. Was probably my problem the hole time but. Wow

If I only widen out the sides of the intake/exhaust & not the top/bottom, does it still effect the timing or just allow more fuel in/exhaust leaving?

How do u change the timing once you have ported it that's where I'm going to run into issues
@Perkins.porting5 жыл бұрын
To answer your question... if you're worried about that, make adjustments to piston until it runs as desired . If you mess up just replace the piston.
@85randall17 жыл бұрын
How do you calculate how much material to remove from the exhaust port as intake to increase duration? You just go right to it ? You have to figure out what your timing is first wit a assembled engine with squish set to where you want it , then put a degree wheel on it with pointer , find TDC then accurately remove material wile measuring degrees
@Perkins.porting6 жыл бұрын
85Randall I made this video as an introduction.. just starting out with your first time you don't really need to worry about all that. I do have a squish meter and degree wheeel.. but honestly if someone already has those tools or know they are required, they don't need instruction from me.
@EarthSurferUSA6 жыл бұрын
Port "time" is probably the most important factor for building the engine to your needs, but it is "port time area" that also includes the width and corner radius's of the port. There are some old calculations you can do by hand to figure them out, and there is aging and going extinct 2-stroke porting software, like TSR, (Turner now retired), that calculates port time area for any given application. None of it seems to be perfect to me, but they seem to work better than "trial and error" as far as time invested. Doug @ ESP
@EarthSurferUSA6 жыл бұрын
Here is something you might like to know. From a program called "degree it" in my TSR software, I discovered that one degree of added duration at the exhaust and the intake is really really close to .005" of material. So if you want to add 3 degrees of duration to those ports, you know .015" will be very close, closer than you can measure with a degree wheel for the slight existing error repeatably.

I understand why he is saying you don't need to worry about all that now. No beginner is going to a calipers and what not to measure thousandths

What do u use to stop ur dremeled tools from filling up with the engine material & becoming useless? Any type of oil on your tools or do I just replace them? Tx!
@Perkins.porting Жыл бұрын
controlling the speed correctly prevents this. large bits spin slow, small bits spin fast. I never use anything on my bits, just dry.

How does porting the intake lower acceleration speed?
@Perkins.porting7 жыл бұрын
Nitrow Boxhead bounty it changes timing, the more fuel you allow in per stroke lengthens the time it take to process. . that in combination with a 100+ lb. load creates a low end lag.. I usually try to find a healthy medium with gopeds and mostly just widen the intake with a minor timing change.
@sinurbia7 жыл бұрын
I understand that a richer mixture burns slower. So would more air/oxygen/n2o help with the low end lag if time of processing is lengthened with more fuel? with the same piston size?
@Perkins.porting7 жыл бұрын
Nitrow Boxhead bounty yes I see where your going, this tutorial is for non reed engines... if you had a reed valve to regulate intake timing your theory would prove effective.
