Madam, The vedic beliefs and indus valley civilisation existed much before the aryans mixed with the native population ( this prosperous civilisation attracted the immigrants from all the neighbouring regions in north, west, east and south of it ).

Aryans are the people of the Yamnaya culture that then started the BMAC culture and later the Iranian and Vedic Indian culture. Just open a map for "R1a" DNA and it shows the truth clear as a daylight. All propaganda, lies, and beliefs end there.

She was factually off in places, but she conveyed the overall umbrella of Hinduism quite well - which consists of several dharmic tradition - from sanatan to neo vedantic. I mean Hinduism is damn complex and vast specially to an Abrahamic audience.

"what they came to call the Indus river" Didn't the term Indus come from the Greeks who arrived in the third century BC? How is this woman teaching at a university?

That was a bit painful to listen to... but I would like to note to some of the other commenters. Religious studies isn't about looking at religion from a single religious view, so ofcourse she wouldn't be quoting certain texts like Bhagavad Gita or the Vedas. The professor here also wouldn't be talking about a religious timeline, she's going based on the western understanding of historic timeline. I often like to explain to other westerners who are interested in Hinduism, that it's based on three ingredients: sects, geography, and philosophical school. Those three constitute and create the majority of all groups under the umbrella.

the last of the main hindu texts was written in 3126 b.c. so its older than that not 1800 b.c. :) thats the years britishers just gave it when they couldnt date it back rightly,.. would have helped if they had considered asking one of us. lol

An interesting summary, a balanced delivery. But I believe that some references could help with more accurate information for basing your lectures on Hinduism. Let us start with its age. Just the current Kaliyuga started on 18 February 3012BCE - & there have been an infinite number of these periods of time. So this Kaliyuga is about 5,115.5 years old. This Kaliyuga, started with the passing away of Lord Krishna (18 Feb 3102BCE). There is much more, but word limits do limit me.

For a western audience introducing Hinduism is bound to be a challenge. On the one hand how can you say _Aham Bramasmi_ or _Tat twam asi_ and on the other hand talk about 330 million deities in 20 minutes? The Vedas and the Upanishads have been drumming this message for millennia but many of us (at least my friends) have no clue! I wish she pointed out that Hinduism is a religion looking inward to find God rather than looking outward like the Abrahamic religions. I take my hats off to his lady for doing such a good job.

Liar. You don't know anything about Abrahamic religion. Read the Bible, it focuses on inward . I was born in a hindu family, so i know hindu and other religions are fake. They are made by satan to distract people from the Truth. Only Jesus Christ is The Truth.

The previous commenter is correct when they claim there's an error stated here in what Ghandi taught. It was a Hindu raising a Muslim orphan as a Muslim by way of atonement for murder. A beautiful story with a strong moral about tolerance and understanding across faiths.

You are right. It was to a Hindu hardcore person that Gandhi suggested that he adopt a Muslim orphan to be brought up as a Muslim as a way of atonement for his killing Muslims in the riot!

@@maryphilip7056 Riots are not a one way street. Read Kolkata and Noahkhali killing. I am not even talking about Islamic invasions and subjugations. He had this strange one sided narrative where Hindus alone had to stay non violent. The British could torture. The Khilafati movement could create massacres. But Hindus have to turn the other cheek.

Wasn't the "first Hindu" mentioned in the medieval age for non-Muslim religions under the Ghazanvids, even though these religions were also different from each other as much as they were with the Iranic and Turkic Muslims.

I can't believe you are teaching the hypothesis of aryan invasion as a theory..as a scientist, I will like to teach the students what is hypothesis and what are the possibilities..

As the technology is getting better and better, the aryan Invasion theory is having a tough time to exist.. The recent DNA studies are throwing a lot of light in the early migrations that took place out of india and not inwards.. The brits cooked that theory out of prejudice.

for a 22 minute talk ,Madam has NOT Quoted even one verse from any of Authoritative Hindu Religious Texts. Indus Valley Civilization--Mahathma Gandhi--Muslim--these are related to History.--Irrelevant to Hindu Religion. From a Religious point of view,it is irrelevant --who was the Founder --when it was Founded etc--what does the Religion say ? --how it differs from other Religions ? if the Madam would have Explained or even "CONTESTED" why 35 million Americans are Practizing "YOGA" ,when they know or may NOT Know ("Ignorance is Bliss) => "YOGA Mithi Maanyanthay" "Zareeraam Indriya Dharanam".(Katha Upanishad--6-1) or "Yatra YOGA Sabdham Zrunutham" "Tatra Niraadhisayam Sarvagjna Bheejam" or " Sva Deham Aranim Krthvaa -Pranavam" "Cottaranim-Dhyaana (YOGA) Nirmadhana" " Abyaasaat Devam Pasyen Noghoodhavat " ( Svetasvathaara Upanishad-1-14) if Madam had cleared all these doubts in the minds of "Pseudo-Yogis" --i would have Saluted the Madam.

You quoted Mahatma Gandhi in your lecture. Perhaps you should correct your narration: because it is well known that Mahatma Gandhi said to a Hindu rioter in Calcutta that he should find a Muslim child and bring him up as a Muslim. The idea being, I think, that such an atonement would enable him to attain a level of understanding of the other religion that no book or lecture could bring him.

You do not know anything about Hinduism. You are throwing stones in different direction. Cannot you start with simple things like: Three Gods are originated from the same origin-Brahma (The creator), Vishnu(The preserver) and Shiv (The God of Destruction) .It makes a whole scientific sense. First read the vedas or Bhagwat Geeta then talk about Hinduism or any religion. Shut up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hinduism is not a polytheistic religion. Those 330 million are not god and goddess, they are devi and devta. There is just one 'param-atman' or 'prime-soul'. Devi and devta are beings of great accomplishments who stay blessed forever. By the way, good try.
