Some of the most famous ancient Egyptian pharaohs including Ramesses II, also known as Ramesses the Great, come from the New Kingdom period of Egypt during the eighteenth and nineteenth dynasties. It was during this time that the title pharaoh came into use; prior to the New Kingdom, Egyptian rulers were known as “kings”. “Pharaoh” is the Greek form of the Egyptian “Pero” meaning “Great House” and referring to the Royal Residence.
The first king of Egypt, Menes - also known as Narmer - is depicted on the well-known Narmer Palette, wearing the two crowns of Egypt which symbolised the unification of the region under a single ruler. During their reign, the kings of Egypt were not only associated with Horus, but were considered intermediaries between the gods and the people of Egypt.

Can you think of another ancient culture whose ruler served the same functions as the King or Pharaoh in Egypt?

Who were the mysterious Sea Peoples?
@WorldHistoryEncyclopedia
@WorldHistoryEncyclopedia Жыл бұрын
The Sea Peoples were a confederacy of naval raiders who wrecked havoc upon the coastal towns and cities of the Mediterranean region between c. 1276-1178 BCE. As for their identity/nationality, well, that's still an intriguing mystery. 🙂

So, Tutankhamun was a Pharaoh of the 19th dynasty? 🤔 I learned that he was part of the 18th dynasty.

Hi, yes, you're correct and this was probably an error on our behalf. He ruled during the later half of the 18th Dynasty.

Well made video. I think that perhaps Spain from the 1500s might serve as a good example, although this is merely a guess since the monarchs did not represent a god. Maybe Japan from the early to mid 1940s may serve as a great example since the leader was literally a god.

Every conditioned thing is impermanent and subject to decline. It was also so with the pharaohs of the successful ancient Egyptian civilization. A question; when you say Nebra linked both his reign and his name with the gods, do you mean specifically god Ra? Because even in Narmer's Palette we can see the falcon bird representing Horus meaning the king had already associated himself with the deity Horus? Why is Nebra so special? Can you clarify this part?
@WorldHistoryEncyclopedia
@WorldHistoryEncyclopedia Жыл бұрын
Hi! No, we mean Horus. Nebra is the Horus name of the pharaoh.
