Bolivia, South America, is home to the Mexican drug cartel, Santa Blanca.
As they continue to grow in power and influence, the country is becoming transformed into the world’s largest producer of cocaine.
In the earlier days of the cartel, the Bolivian government set up a special forces unit, called Unidad. The aim was to shut down the cartel by cutting it off at the knees. But this didn’t go to plan.
Santa Blanca already had too strong a hold on the country. By paying off the police, the courts, government officials, and even members of the special forces unit, within no time, thousands and thousands of bodies started showing up. Politicians, journalists, police officers…..the infrastructure of the country was beginning to collapse.
Running out of options, the new President made a deal with Santa Blanca.
“You stop killing our people, and we’ll look the other way”.
After this exchange, Santa Blanca has grown out of control.
Utilising contacts in Mexico, there is a clear supply-line directly into the US and Canada.
The United States was forced to enter into this conflict when the American embassy in La Paz was the target of an attack.
An explosive device that was detonated outside, injured 2 Marine Embassy Guards.
Two days later, a DEA Special Agent “Ricky” Sandoval. Was found dead.
It is believed that Sandoval was the intended target of the bombing.
Sandoval has been in Bolivia for the last 6 years investigating the local cocaine industry, and he was the close personal friend of CIA contact, Karen Bowman.
A Ghost Recon fireteam is deployed into Bolivia as part of Operation Kingslayer, which is a joint operation between the CIA, DEA, and the Joint Special Operation Command.
Their mission, to take down the group responsible for the embassy bombing and the death of Special Agent Sandoval. This group is the Mexican Cartel, Santa Blanca.
