Very detailed and helpful explanation. I read through the CRS Mikrotik wiki on VLANs and followed the VLAN configuration example I was trying to achieve without a solid understanding of what the underlying functions of each procedure did. Great upload, thanks!

Tried following along with a CRS354-48G-4S+2Q+ takes for me a ride on the failbus. [admin@MikroTik] /interface ethernet> set [ find default-name=ether48 ] master-port=ether1 expected end of command (line 1 column 35)

I just purchased a CRS328-24P-4S and when I try to boot into SwitchOS it just loops. What would cause that? Also, how can I update switchOS?

I am interested in a CSS326-24G-2S+RM but I can't really find any information regarding the soundlevel on thoose. How loud are they? Or could I place them in my livingroom?

Most of Mikrotik's equipment is passively cooled with no moving parts, so it should be silent. The metal case for that switch has mounting for a fan but no fan by default. I personally use a CRS125-24G-1S-2HnD-IN at home, and CRS125-24G-1S-RM at work and they are silent and run cool. The CSS is a switch just so you are sure you want to get that one over the CRS that is a Router+Switch.
