Another excellent point covered! Yes intrusive urges are often more subtly challenging than the sensations because u wear sensations all the time but those intrusive urges of making sudden changes comes for a short span of time but with a thud of impulse!

Thank you for this video. The aspect I find hard is my brain getting confused with reality and ocd so for example I will question everyday decisions such as when I'm having a conversation I'll think shall I say that? What if that thought is ocd and not me? And then I don't say stuff I might usually beacause I'm so afraid of saying or doing something I shouldn't so I've become a quieter version of myself because I'm afraid decisions I make based on urges aren't me but ocd!!!??? Does that make any sense?? Haha

Hey Hannah! This is very common - It's a fear of fear component also linked to, "Is this part of OCD/ is this is actually compulsive", usually. So I would recommend leaning into that for now and just letting yourself feel, key word 'feel', very confused. It's this confusion we hate so much, but in reality this confusion is where our freedom lies! You can do it!

@@aguywhohikes1271 Thank you. Good to know it's 'normal' I get a lot of relief and comfort just knowing it's not just me!

One of the things that bother me is: If I can’t trust aspects of my mind because of OCD, then how much of it’s interpretations can I trust ?

Hey Rithvike - Getting comfortable with not knowing what we can trust and what we can't is the answer. We want to learn to lean into the possibility of not knowing what's true vs. not.

@@aguywhohikes1271 This is exactly what scares me. Our conclusions and understandings would all be ambiguous at best. There would be a loss of a sense of agency combined with a sense of loss of self.

And what type of exposure ? We can apply on urges? .....just for knowledge purpose not reassurance
@aguywhohikes1271

Hey buddy! So for urges the best exposure is to wear them everywhere - Life will give us plenty of random automatic urges, leaning into them when they come at random is what helped me a lot.

Thanks Nick, I have a question: I struggle with urges for Sensorimotor OCD over my bladder. How does one differentiate between normal urges (such as noticing when the bladder is full and can't go pee because I'm stuck in a meeting or something) vs. hyperfocusing? "Normal people" hyperfocus on the bladder when they are in certain situations too, in order to stay in healthy control... Core fear is being traumatized sexually again and bullied from childhood. Should I do ERP for this? Or should I just keep on facing the core fear and moving on with my life the anxiety present? Thanks and enjoy the hike! I'm climbing Governor's rock in NC this year. ⛰️

That should be an awesome hike man! So Question 1) Getting comfortable, as I am sure you know what I am going to say lol, with no knowing when it's OCD vs. not. Trying to figure that out is a dead end for us unfortunately. So what I would do is this - Look at the areas in your life where you try to avoid and or figure out if it's normal vs. hyperawareness (lean into the uncertainty). Look at the potential behaviors you're doing (avoidance wise) and break down the core fear - "If I notice my bladder sensation and it reminds me of something in my past it's horrible". That's exactly what I would do!

@@aguywhohikes1271 Thank you so much for your reply! Super helpful! I didn't realize how much of my time was spent trying to figure out if it was "trauma vs. OCD!" Lol I also did not see the connection of how often I felt the sensation and got angry because it reminded me of the trauma until now!!! So much clarity. 💪 Many, many thanks!!! Enjoy your time at the military base with your friend!!
