The Paris Catacombs are over 200 miles of maze-like tunnels, and entering them is extremely dangerous. You can get lost within 5 minutes of entering, and there is a long history of people being lost, and some never being found.
I highly suggest not entering the tunnels. Do not recreate this. We went with expert guides, and did a LOT of research... and even then the risk of getting lost, being robbed or attacked is very high.
Other than the danger down there, the Catacombs are a very special and historical place. If you are going to ignore my warning of entering, I plead with you to keep the place preserved. Treat it with respect. It is quite sad that this historical place is being treated like a rubbish bin or a place to vandalise by some people.
For anyone wanting to know more about the catacombs, please inform yourself appropriately and approach this historic place in the right manner. Once again thank you to the amazing people I had with me on this adventure and for teaching me so much!

I've seen a lot of KZfaqrs experience the catacombs, but it's always different reaction to it, it's such a spectacular place to see after all, even though it's a giant maze.

You made the right choice, there are people who live there down there and on the web there are many stories that say that if these people find you wandering in the forbidden zone, they jump on you and steal your equipment (lights, cameras and map) and then they vanish into the darkness leaving people to a sad fate

This literally had me on edge... I'm watching it at 4am in Australia and theres alot of wind around my apartment so its making the building make noises. I could hear them over the headphones and I had to turn all the lights on haha! Im glad you're all safe and decided to turn around!

I explore a lot of underground spaces including labyrinth stone mines near where I live, said to be 200 miles long, and the paris catacombs place as always been on my hit list, but I can't say I have ever been to anywhere, where the main danger is being attacked, and if that's true this place is not for me. I can and do literally deal with anything else associated with being underground, loose rock, tight spaces and squeezes long crawls, mazes, deep water, vertical drops, but not people, people are the worse, as everything else even the looseness I can predict. If that's all true that is, if it's 16 hours in and people live in there, what the heck do they eat, unless there's a much quicker way to that section.
