there's a slot on the base of the holocron that you can insert a piece of plastic or thick paper into which disconnects the battery. leaving the battery disconnected for a few minutes will reset the holocron. i find using a piece of a business card or playing card works really well. see this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fsqDi7mWvbemZGw.html

is it the same message even if the crystal isn't in the holocron? does the holocron change colors when you insert a crystal? have you charged the holocron fully?

Is the holocron fully charged? Plug it in to a USB charger while it's off and it will glow blue and the light will fade in and out. When it's fully charged I believe it turns green. Give it a full charge then see if that fixes the problem. Does the whining noise only happen when it turns on, or does it always happen? Does it respond to be turned off similarly to how mine does in this video (it cycles through three colors, before turning off)? If you press the touch pads on the holocron, does it change color? Do the battery reset step without plugging the holocron into a USB charger, but leave the piece of plastic in there for several (five+) minutes. This will essentially perform a hard reset on the microcontroller. Doing this could fix any issues where the microcontroller has glitched and needs to be reset. My guess is that it either needs the battery to be recharged, the battery has gone, or something is wrong with the microcontroller itself. If the battery charge doesn't fix it, you should reach out to Disney's Merchandise Guest Services about it and see if they'll replace it for you. @@Ruthsarian Sorry for the late reply, and thanks for the response. It was fully charged. When it was fully charged it would make the normal sounds for a few seconds longer before going back to the whining. When I turned it off, it stopped. I could get it into the mode where it responds to each individual side with a different color, and the white/cyan color when both pressed. That problem is gone now, and has turned to something else. The first issue started when I plugged it in to charge using a fast charging ac adapter, like the kind I would use for my phone. I initially thought that I had fried the battery with over current. I have since opened it and checked the connection, moved some of the wires around and moved the battery in and out of it’s resting spot. The current issue is that it will turn on and deliver the base message, but will not react to any crystals. I checked the copper coil, and it appears to have not moved or been damaged. I don’t think I damaged the two copper strands that connect to the board, but I cannot tell for sure. The microswitch that reads the crystal chamber as open and closed works normally. I have since bought a new holocron that works. I might contact Disney, but more likey I’ll keep that bad one so that I have one to tinker with. I’ll try the hard reset and wait longer with the kill switch pressed. Thank you again for the reply, and for your videos.

The first thing you should do is try contacting Disney's Merchandise Guest Services either via e-mail at Merchandise.Guest.Services@DisneyParks.com or call 1-877-560-6477. Tell them about your problem with the holocron. They may be able to replace it free of charge. On the bottom of the holocron is a small slit which has a switch inside used to disconnect the battery from the holocron's electronics. A new holcoron has a piece of plastic stuck in that hole to keep the battery fresh before it's sold. If you cut a small piece of stiff plastic or cardboard (I use a sliver of business card) and stick it into the hole and leave it there for a few minutes, this will force the microcontrollers inside the holocron to reset. If one of those microcontrollers has glitched, causing it to misbehave like this, a reset should fix the problem. Have you tried recharging the holocron? It may be that the battery is getting low. Does your holocron make any sound at all? If it does, and you do not have any kyber crystal inserted, will it play voices when you activate it? If it doesn't make any noise at all, then the speaker or a wire connected to the speaker is probably broken. if it does make noise (like the whooshing noise when it's idling), but does not detect your touch, it's likely something is broken with the touch sensors. the sensors are just pieces of copper tape stuck to the inside of the holocron. a wire runs from each sensor to a PCB where a microcontroller is monitoring the touch sensors to detect your touch. either a wire connecting one of the touch sensors has broken off or the microcontroller that monitors the sensor has broken. you could try opening up the holocron and check those wires and see whether or not one of them has broken off the a touch sensor. if it has, you could reattach the wire with some soldering or maybe even just a bit of tape to hold the wire down on the copper pad (doesn't matter where on the copper pad it's attached). If the wires are okay, then it's probably not a simple repair (and may not be repairable at all).

I don't think the magnets can damage the battery directly, but it could have damaged the switches in the corners it used to activate it. I would recommend either just contacting disney to see if they can replace it, or if they won't do it attempt a diy fix by looking at diagrams of the internals. Don't open it up before you try to get a refund cause I think that voids the warranty.

the bottom of the sith holocron and the top of the jedi holocron must face each other in order for them to react to each other. If any other face of either holocron is used, it will not work. the top of the jedi holocron can be identified by opening the tray that holds the kyber crystal. the open tray should be coming out the side of the holocron with the hole that contains the crystal facing up. the top face of the cube, in this orientation, is the top of the jedi holocron. the bottom of the sith holocron can be deduced the same way, using the kyber crystal tray as a way to know which way is up and which way is down. with both holcorons powered on, place the sith holocron over the top of the jedi holocron and you should get them to react.

@@Ruthsarian i actually used your tutorial on hard resetting the Jedi holocron. Once I did that it works now.

Can you post a picture or video somewhere showing the misaligned corners? I'm curious how bad it is. The corners are somewhat loose by nature and can appear off by maybe as much as a quarter inch even when they are aligned correctly.
