Gold is gold, and bars are a better value. Fakes can be bars or coins. If you buy and sell from and to the popular dealers, you're fine. I made a couple hundred dollars per bar selling back to SD. I will not buy overpriced American and Canadian coins. A good thing about bars is, if they're stolen, you have a serial number.

I believe diversifying in silver is wise. Silver demands more preference in my opinion. During this past year, I decided not to buy any less than 9999 in gold. 999 makes no sense to me anymore. I dislike paying more in premiums on the fractional gold, but I believe it is wise to have fractional gold as well. Right now, I only invest in bars; due to the lower premium. Those are my thoughts. Sean, great video! You don't need my advice, but I think you're doing everything right, I think you'll have 100K Subs by the end of this year for sure. Keep up the good work my friend!

One benefit of the coin is you can balance it on your finger and tap the edge with a pen. Each design and material of coin can have a distinct sound, but once you learn what a kruggerand, canadian maple, or american eagle sounds like, this sound cannot be faked. Since the coins are manufactured with high repeatability, this sound serves as a signature to verify the authenticity when used in combination with basic physical measurements. So no fake coin can pass all four of the following checks: weight, diameter, thickness, acoustic ping. Tungsten can pass the first three but will have an empty thud when tapped. This is the easiest way to verify gold with primitive tools and is the origin of the phrase "sound money".

Another great video, Sean. I am a one ounce Gold Maple stacker. I don't mind paying $13 more With the security features and Worldwide recognition a Gold stacker can't go wrong. Also, the 24k is a benefit for people that live in Countries that tax Gold that falls below .995 purity. Any 24k coin or bar should be always be in a protective capsule.....Why take a chance of a scratch or a dropped coin or bar? I suggest for stackers to stay away from anything that is fractional, the premiums are just too high. Better to save up and buy those one ounce coins!

I like to diversify and let the premiums and chance take a part in the diversification. 1 oz coins are nice but also quite expensive so especially in times with rising prices it can make good sense to buy when you can. I buy .900 as happily as I by .9999 so last year when my local dealer had a special deal on Austrian 1 Ducat I hit the button and got some at just about the same premium as 1 oz coins - they where even slightly cheaper than 1/10 oz coins despite containing more gold. I don't know about other dealers around the world but at my place dealers tends to give you just about spot when selling. So having fractionals give you more opportunities when selling. I know the war (I mean "special military operation") wasn't happening when you wrote your comment but as things looks now spiced up with c-virus in China we look at rising inflation and dark times ahead. Being able to sell fractionals will allow your reserves to last longer as the moment it's converted to fiat currency it looses its value fast. I don't plan on selling my PM any time soon though and I can take a significant more of financial disturbance than many others but you'll never know what'll happen. Had you asked me before the "special military operation" begun I'd say such a scenario was very unlikely despite China's zero tolerance for c-virus.

@HifiCentret
@HifiCentret 2 жыл бұрын
@@fishmonger6879 Who are you asking? Sure I think it's wise to have a nice balance in your stack. But still I don't extremely small sizes like are wise to stack to a huge extend - for smaller "denominations" we have silver. I have a few 1 grams bars but only 1 I'm keeping - it was the first piece of investment gold I ever bought - the others are for gift occasions and one is already destined to be giftet during the summer at a baptism. Smallest coin I have is 2.02 gram and only one. Then there's 1/10 and 3,44 gram (1 Austrian Ducat). Otherwise it's 20 Francs/Lire and others closer to 1/4 oz. No way I'm stacking 1/10 at dealers premium but if I'm lucky at auction or private deals I'll sure pick em up. But I do stack 1oz too. To be honest I really dont believe in any scenario where bartering will ever become common. We stackers are a minority - just look at how many people have sold their gold during the last financial crisis - not many have any gold of significance left - let alone real bullion - and in the case of a crisis will people not used to handling gold trust your gold? IMHO not very likely. So by all probability it'll be with a dealer as middleman exchanging to/from inflation hit cash. Also I don't see the gold as a hedge against that. Here you'll do much better by offering your labour and when the crisis is finally over then your gold can give you a nice head start. But I do hope it's not the case. I stack because it's fun and as a secondary retirement funding in addition to the traditional primary one.

Having lived 3 years of my pre school childhood in South Africa in the 80s (a wonderful time for me back then) my 💓 is also for the Krugerrands. Not that I don't like the national vintage gold coins or others but being the first and original bullion coin imho also counts. What I also love about them is that they don't have an arbitrary low denomination unlike any other bullion - their legal tender value is whatever the gold price is - love that!

Any US based stackers here that have a comment on they are buying right now? I dont have nay gold yet just silver. I am looking to either get some bars or US mint coins. Being mid 2022, coins are much higher premium i.e AGE's and buffalos. Does anyone have experience in their worth when going to sell lately? It seems like most places are paying over spot for gold eagles or buffs but do you even make the $ back if you had just bought a gold bar and got less back for it but you paid much less. Id like to get some gold but just cant decide in this timeframe whether to go for the cheaper up front bars or stick to the US coins and pay the higher up front cost in hopes I will recoup some of that in the long run.

I like the smaller spreads between the buy price and the sell back price, this applies to silver as well. We can hope to recover some premium paid but it's not guaranteed since we don't know what the future holds. For silver and gold stackers it goes beyond the mind what the valuation is in fiat currencies of their metals stack since they're preparing for a world where fiat currency may not exist! At least for a time period. The central banks are doing their best to conspire with the commercial banks to hold down the valuation of silver and gold in order to keep things under control.

Coins are for fanatics who love design's like collectors and history fanatics plus you pay more coins which is not wise. As far as taxes go I don't understand why people use portfolio's to purchase precious metals and have the government in their business. I refuse to pay taxes on precious metal 🤣 Just buy physical and shut up & keep quiet about it and sell back to a dealer when the time is ready. Or save up and use as collateral for income producing asset like a house and buy back precious metals slowly with real estate revenue rinse wash and repeat.

Yeah. I started out buying bars. Rushed out to get 2x 100gram when I learned that having gold bars was not only legal but also investment gold is VAT exempt (my parents and "everybody" have been lying) and since then also some smaller 20 grams and the like. Kinda regretted since that but I still have them since it costs to convert them to coins. Should I need large amount liquidated they'll be the first to go. Now I've switched to coins. Much easier to do when trading privately as they're much easier to verify using inexpensive tools than goldbars (never been fooled in my 10+ years of stacking). I also like to hun the good private deals on markets where you're not likely to expect gold coins to emerge. Often the sellers re not fully aware of what they're selling or there's not a dealer in their area. Of course it's mostly the smaller coins but I've just picked to 2x 1 Ducat and 1x 4 Ducat 15% below my local dealers buy price - too good to not pull the trigger and yes they're genuine (1915 restrikes). Actually they've been on the (mostly fashion) trading site for a long time. But the seller don't know where to sell them so they're just sold along with her clothes and jewelry. For a long period they've been too expensive but as time has gone by two things have happed. Seller lowered her prices while gold price has gone up and since I was in the mood to add to my stack now was as good a time as any other. Not my first choice of coins to stack (prefer Krugerrands and vintage Europeans) but as said I also like to diversify and the price was too nice to ignore.

I bought 20 5g bars, in case the paper money is going worthless. It's easier to trade with in a shop than big bars. Is that wise?
@SeanFooGold
@SeanFooGold 2 жыл бұрын
hmmm well in a SHTF scenario it will be, but personally I would get one ounce coins or 50 g bars and save on the premiums up front. If I need the cash, I will just sell it all, get the cash and then spend over the weeks or months.

@@SeanFooGold I think we have to prepare for the day when cash is worthless too! I can only withdraw $ 500 every fourth day. In Sweden, we are on our way into a real money free society. If I go to the bank and say I do not trust them anymore and want to withdraw my savings, I can not withdraw more than $ 500 every fourth day. What if I have $ 100,000 in my account? It would take over 2 years for me to get the money out and go to the vending machine every four days. It's so bad and it's going to get even worse here in this country.

Since when is PAMP "generic"?
@SeanFooGold
@SeanFooGold 2 жыл бұрын
Technically it isn't, but for the comparison, SD Bullion lumped it as generic as well as a separate category. But PAMP is usually cheaper.

I dont get "paying the premium for worldwide recognition" because ALL my local gold buyers will only give me spot price irrespective of coin or bar, so the premium paid is a pure loss. I also dont care for bartering with coin buyers trying to recoup my premium I paid on top of the spot price..... So what IS the value of cold coins outside some emotional reason or "collecting" reason?

@go4it129 Жыл бұрын
It can be. I think if you're strictly in it for investment reasons, gold bars would be the way to go. You may only get spot value when you sell it, but the premium you pay can be up to half of gold coins. It's a hedge fund. If you bought 10 oz at $1300 and gold goes up to $2,000 that's a pretty good return even at spot value. It's for the long term
@LeadingIndicator
@LeadingIndicator Жыл бұрын
@@go4it129 You obviously do not know what an investment is, as opposed to an asset. Investments pay you to own them, and gold does not. You cannot make money owning gold, only by selling it, therefore it is NOT and investment. The same is true of a house you "own" and live in, vs. one you might buy only to resell. People who imagine that the metal itself is an investment are called "dumb money" for an intelligent reason. Cheers.
