When the shares weren't trading in the stock exchange, how were people valuing their business?
It was with the help of this value investing approach laid down by Benjamin Graham in this book Security Analysis in 1934 Warren Buffett learned the basics of investing.
The approach is simple. Buy a stock that's selling below it's book value. In other words, buy stocks that are selling at less than their net working capital.
Benjamin Graham called them net-net stocks.
