Ok so Cecil Stedman is one of the most enigmatic characters in Invincible. The Government Agent seems like a strategic genius that is always one step ahead of everyone else and because of this he's one of season 1's most interesting characters. But what are his hopes, his dreams? Well, we're not really gonna be discussing that but throughout this video we will be going over his comic history, what the show does differently and also how he got those scars.
Full spoilers ahead so if you don't want anything ruined then I recommend that you turn off now. Whilst the show might be taking things in a different direction, we will be discussing what happens with him in the source material so get out of here if you still want some surprises.
With that out the way, welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show I'm your host The Spoilerman, now let's get into our Invincible Character Breakdown.
Ok so Cecil Stedman first appeared in the pages of Brit A Cold death all the way back in 2003. Based at the Pentagon he worked alongside his partner Donald who you might too know from the Tv show. Though he wouldn't make his appearance in the Invincible Universe until issue 13 of the original run, the character has a long and rich history in the pages of Image Comics.
As a young agent, Cecil was captured by Terrorists who ended up torturing him and they also exposed him to a flesh disintegrating gas that completely ravaged his skin. Luckily Brit stepped in to save the day and he saved the character from what would have been certain death.
However, Cecil's body was badly damaged and thus he had to have artificial skin put over his entire body in order to save his life. However Cecil left a scar around his mouth as a reminder of the time that he failed.
Now though on the surface this just seems like a great bit of character design, it actually goes beyond that and subtly hints to readers at exactly the kind of man that he is.
Cecil once said that he would make a deal with the devil in order to keep the planet safe and his entire appearance also speaks to his mentality. Though he seems like a corporate suit due to his attire, there's also an ugliness to him that is hinted through this scar and as we learn throughout the series, he's someone who will do whatever it takes to win, even if it means breaking the rules.

Cecil is what true bravery is, a super man or omni man never goes to a fight expecting to die. Cecil is always at risk always ready to risk it all for the safety of the planet. My favourite invincible character by far.

Nick Fury is much more a badass in the comics tho. They kinda juxtapose each other in that Cecil is barely seen in the comics but he's like the star of the show in the series, While Nick Fury has brains, brawns and badassery in the comics but then he's kinda so-so in the movies.

I haven't read the comics in years, but I always imagined Cecil as sounding more erratic and loud than the show's version. The show's version of Cecil feels way more calm and collected, although maybe I'm misremembering how he is in the comic

After seeing your episode 1-3 breakdown, I got into the show. It was so good and I couldn't wait for episode 4 and I got the entire Invincible comic series (my first ever comic) Needless to say it was amazing. It's crazy to think that the comic series spanned 10 years. Thankfully I didn't have to wait that long. Though I feel empty now that I'm through with it, it's good that the show is taking its liberties with the source material and coming up with a somewhat original version It was such an amazing ride so thank you for introducing me to Invincible You're doing good things

I can't wait for episode 8. I'll watch this video after I will watch episode 8 on Friday. Will there be a second season?

We are all (mostly) hoping they announce it on Friday or the weekend but nothing has been confirmed. So much more story to tell though so I'd be surprised.
