@@morales1961 yeah. I just looked it up, but 6' 2" is still much taller than Wahlberg at 5' 8". It gives people the misconception that Papale was a small guy making it in a big man's position. Papale also played almost 2 years in the World Football League before catching on with the Eagles. It's not like he just walked in off the streets.

Kind of happened. He wasn't at a general try-out. He had played for the WFL and met Eagles leadership first and had a private try-out where he made the team. So, he wasn't just some out of work teacher working as a bartender before he got there with no experience as a football player.

The real play was a TD scored by player Arturo Mendez, but the announcers accidently called out Vince Papale as the playmaker. Mendez almost gave up hope that the statistic would be fixed, but in 1998 the NFL corrected the mistake. Years Later Disney used Papale in their film and Mendez once again lost hope.

Women do that kinda of stuff to make them feel better about leaving you. Women are very mean at times to good guys but yhey can be nice to guys who are mea and dont deserve it. I guess you got to be a girl to think like they do. Most want riches and fame and nice life to happen overnight and dont want to wait years to get it. But oh well they only think short term.

@Michael - It did happen; OFCOURSE not in that exact same way as in the movie; but, it did happen. Giants vs. Eagles game September 19th, 1976. Punt return; Papale hit the receiver so hard, the receiver fumbled the ball and Papale caught it and ran with it… yeah.

Why can't sports movies ever have actors say the sort of things you hear from actual play-by-play people during games. The lame dialogue by the person doing the play-by-play in this movie just ruins this scene for me.

The wife story was fictional. He never met her until he was done playing football. Papale played football in a semi pro league. He was experienced when he joined The Eagles. His touchdown never happened. Ball was dead when he recovered fumble. He lived in Delaware County. All that bar stuff in Philly was fictional. The movies and the lies were worse than Rudy, but never let the facts get in the way of a movie making money. When the Eagles got good, Vermiel cut him. Total B.S. movie and Wahlberg was a midget compared to Papale. ButvPapale was handsomer. Wahlberg was doingvDeparted at tge same time. Dingham vs Papale
