My name is Ion Miu and I was born at 21 january 1955, in city Titu, Dambovita.
When I was 4 years old I started with my father to play on the cimbalom.
In all this years I obtained a lot of awards, as:
- 1973- First Award at the International Festival Berlin.
- 1979- First Award, the diploma and the honour title as "Laureat" in Bucharest.
- 1980- First Award at Balcanic Festival in Novisad upon the stick of conductor Bebe Oprea.

Fantastic!!! Wish I could find his records. He was in Tucson but they only brought a tiny toy cimbalom so I didn't get to see him on the concert grand. (go figure) He was touring with Le Yeux Noirs but he's better than all of them put together. : )

@jordan1980 It's sort of between "tsimbalom" and "chimbalom." Of course, my family has always spoken its Romanian in Bessarabian and Hungarian accents, so I could be wrong.

@jordan1980 in case you'd like to know, the correct word is "tsambal" and that's in romanian, cimbalom would be in english, not chimnbalom and I'm guessing his mom gave birthn to him on one of this instruments, not in a hospital, otherwise it's hard to explain his talent.

Absolutely incredible. I have a cimbalom sitting in my living room but it's needs lots of work. If anyone knows some way that I can restore mine, please let me know. I want to learn to play it so bad.
