Letter Ladies Martha and Rena head to North East Oregon to hike the Ione, Oregon hillside letter "I". This is the Letter Ladies first Oregon hillside letter, and the very first "I". Lots of firsts for sure!
When scoping out the hike the Letter Ladies discovered not one, but TWO GATES that they would need to go through in order to hike up to the "I". Now all the Letter Ladies have promised their husbands that they will not get in any trouble. Rena and Martha decided it would be a good idea to see if they could find someone in town who could tell them about hiking to the "I".
Luck was certainly on the Letter Ladies side! They stopped by the local grocery store. The cashier was not from Ione, Oregon, so she wasn't too sure about hiking to the "I". Then two younger folks came into the grocery store. Neither of them were from Ione, BUT they did offer to look up the property owner on the OnX app. Meanwhile yet another person came into the tiny grocery store, and the cashier asked if she knew anything about the hillside letter "I". And boy did she! Jeanette turned out to be VERY knowledgeable about Ione and the trail up to the hillside "I"! Martha and Rena are very grateful to Jeanette for all her help. Seriously, they probably wouldn't have gone on the hike if they had not met Jeannette. Thank you, Jeanette!!!
The hike to the Ione, OR "I" did require going through two gates. Neither gate has a lock on it. But it is very important to make sure to close each gate securely. This hillside letter is on private property.
The walk was not difficult. The hillside is steep, but very doable. And of course, the view from the letter is wonderful!
The Letter Ladies explore hillside letters to learn about the rich history and to go on a fun hike. And, when there is a hot springs near by, they are sure to go for a soak.
