It's now my tinfoil hat theory that Ichiban is actually Nishiki who not only faked his death, but also suffered memory loss to the point where even though he doesn't recognize Kiryu, he still senses the bond between him and himself. As a result, Kiryu and Nishiki are able to rekindle their friendship and become Best Bros again. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be chugging another bottle of Jack Daniel's so I can forget what happened in Kiwami.

In Yakuza 0, Kiryu performs this song with Nishiki, who he considers a brother. He has not chronologically performed this song since the events of Y0 in 1988. The fact that this is in the newest game which stars Ichiban as our playable character means that not only does Kiryu consider Ichiban to be a brother, but also an embodiment of what Nishiki would have been like had he not strayed from the path.

If you think about it, Kiryu and Nishiki were still good friends who still had drinks with each other at Serena in the 7 years between the end of 0 and the 10 year timeskip in kiwami. So maybe Kiryu was still singing with Nishiki. (I mean he clearly only stopped being "brothers" with him for his safety in the events of 0)

Playing the game I absolutely love how Kiryu views Ichiban and works with him. At least from what I've seen he truly sees Ichiban as the hero as the next generation and more than that, one who has a type of strength Kiryu has always struggled with (relying on others). Kiryu also just has so much fun with Ichiban and his friends. It's so wonderful to see.

My fav thing in the song every version Japanese va sings is the little crack when he sings “KOWASEIIIII!” It adds to the realism that Kiryu is an amazing singer and can sing his favorite song perfectly, but still isn’t perfect and has raw vocals, it adds to the feeling that he’s singing so hard to him and nishiki’s song with such emotion and isn’t… ahem… obviously autotuned to the ground.

The weird thing is the autotune is apparently not even a Yong Yea thing because he sings all the other songs just fine without it. In fact Ichiban singing this himself *is also auto-tuned* for absolutely no reason when we already have Kaiji Tang singing his goddamn heart out.

Its amazing that the game forces Kiryu and Ichiban into a Bar with a Karaoke mike in Chapter 3 and, as if compelled by some mysterious force; Judgement is just there. Waiting to be selected without having to unlock it or have Kiryu remember a song he hasn't sung in decades. Because somehow, he had the right Kyoudai to sing it with again.
