No. 8 Virginia Tech fell 80-76 to No. 3 Iowa in a matchup of two of last year’s Final Four teams at the Ally Tipoff. Georgia Amoore was a force for the Hokies all night long, dropping in 7 threes in a 31-point effort, including a halfcourt buzzer beater to end the first quarter and a clutch three with 5 seconds left to pull the Hokies within one possession at the end. Elizabeth Kitley had a 16-point, 16-rebound double double despite taking a forearm to the face just as the second half got underway. Iowa’s Caitlin Clark led all scorers and finished with 44 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists in a back-and-forth thriller of a game that set a women’s basketball regular-season attendance record in the state of North Carolina.

as an Iowa fan I gotta say I'll remember Amoore after this game, she went wild to try and will her team to win, shame she had to deal with an injury a bit in the end but she even played through it phenomenally. Women's basketball is thriving lets gooooo.

No suprise Caitlin had another magnificent scoring performance, but I'm also impressed with how well Amoore was shooting in this game. Great to see a competitive game between the 2 rather than an easy blow-out win by Iowa.

CC brought huge entertainment value to women's bball and the other athletes and support staff around the league seemed to keep stepping up all the time. The level of play keeps improving all around and I'm here for it. I'm predicting CC is the start of an era rather than a one time thing in women's bball hype.

Clark did alot of sneaky elbowing and refs called fouls on VT teams for it. I think if the calls were fair, Clark would of been out before the game was over and Iowa wouldof loss. On the other hand VT missed alot of shots and its obvious they're playing with a few new people. They have a few games to get their chemistry and communications down. The Freshmen on both teams stepped up and I am Proud of this VT team for playing their hearts out. Great Game, Go Hokies!!

If this is the way they want to get ratings and boost womens basketball very poor. Vt players couldn't even stand in front of her without being called for a foul disgusting. This was as worst as the womens championship game, they really show who they want to win in big games much respect to vt for staying competitive and almost pulling it out despite playing vs iwoa and the refs. I will no longer being watching or supporting womens college basketball with the way refs are getting away with cheating they need to be fired now.

Well, last year she averaged 31.8 ppg, 10 assists, and 5.2 rebounds in six NCAA tournament games. Not sure we're venturing into new territory by waiting for this year's tournament.

Against the better teams with good defenses Clark historically has become a chucker. Note her games against LSU, both games against UConn, and against SC. This game was no exception. 13-31? 5-16 from the arc? That is horrific shooting. This team just can't beat the top 3 or 4 teams this year with Clark shooting as she has against these teams previously. They squeaked by here, but frankly, VT isn't a top ten team.

Iowa needs her to be a score and facilitator for them to beat the top teams. She is only player in NCAA BBall to have a 40 pt triple double in tourney and than followed that up with a 40 pt game vs undefeated huge South Carolina team that was trying all they could to stop her…Caitlin averages more PPG vs top teams and carried that team to big10 title and the NCAA title game. …tonight wasn’t her best shooting night but she hit some huge 3s in the 4th…..

They did beat that 36-0 SC team. You are conveniently overlooking Clark driving right past the best defense in the country and getting layup after layup (how could you miss all those non-chucked up shots?) Who else is doing that? She ended up shooting slightly above her season average in that game thanks to her ability to get high percentage shots near the basket (10/14 on two point shots) and made all her free throws. Against LSU she shot 42% on 19 3 point attempts. She only had three 2 point shots for the entire game. So she was definitely "chucking away" in that game, but with a 3 point percentage above her season average. The problem in that game wasn't her shooting. It was Iowa's abysmal defensive performance which led to some of the chucking in an effort to get back into the game. As for this game 13/31 is 42%. That isn't horrific. Below average of course (which was 47.3% last season when she was national player of the year). There are even some noteworthy players who haven't managed to shoot 42% for a season. Georgia Amoore for example didn't average above 40.3% in any of her first 3 apparently horrific seasons at Virginia Tech. And 30% of Clark's points in this game came from the free throw line. Chuckers aren't frequently driving to the basket, getting the other team's players in foul trouble, and shooting 17 free throws in a game. Should have been hard to miss that given how often she was doing it.
